best breast pads

Can anyone recommend the best breast pads, in their opinion? I have tried Sainsbury's own (don't), Avent (not too bad) and am now on Boots washables which are pretty much as good as the Avent ones. However I STILL leak and end up with damp patches fairly frequently. My dd is five weeks old so maybe things will still settle down. Anyone tried the NCT Lillypads? Are they good with a lot of milk?

Thanks

you're right, things do settle down !
I used Johnson and Johnson ones , found them to be the best.
Wondered about the silicon ones but didn't want to fork out for them without knowing!

I loved Lansinoh or tommee tippee. Both exctly the same and very good. Held quite a lot of leaked milk. Wish i had had them 10 yrs ago with my 1st baby!

foxybrown · 18/03/2007 17:16

I liked the Lansihoe ones, absorbant and also has a useful sticky patch to prevent slippage or falling out!

I used breast shells too. Can sterilise them and collect & store the milk ready for another time.

chilledmama · 18/03/2007 17:17

Sound- I leasked really badly initially and used a combo of avent pads and the Lansinoh pads on the inside. The lansinoh ones are really soft and wash really well and the avent ones are slightly waterproof so help to make it all last longer...bad news for me is that DS is 5 months and I still leak which is quite grim but hey its much better than it was!

I've tried loads so far too! I always soak right through washables. Boot own are horrible and itchy. Best so far J&J contour. Whn do things settle down? Ds 9 weeks and still leaking!

shonaspurtle · 18/03/2007 17:24

I've found the J&J pretty much leak proof but pricey as I go through a lot!

The Boots extra absorbent ones are ok but not so comfy and quite plasticky.

I also use Boots washables but I think my frequent use of lansinoh may have affected their performance. They don't seem as absorbent as they were.

Haven't tried Lilypadz but I got hydrogel pads to help heal a bad crack which were excellent for that purpose and more absorbent than you'd think. Again, pricey for everyday since you do have to change them every week or so (rinsing in between).

bitzermaloney · 18/03/2007 18:59

I use EmmaJane washable ones during the day and Lansinoh disposables at night as I still leak a lot then (ds is 7.5 months btw!) and they are the only ones to have contained it all and kept dry next to my skin.

amidaiwish · 18/03/2007 19:52

Lansinoh/Tommee Tippee (they are the same ones!) are by far the best. They are also thin, shaped with tape so they stay in place and don't give you those funny 4 boobs.

SydneyB · 18/03/2007 21:08

Lansinoh definitely! Unbreachable!

Cazee · 18/03/2007 21:17

Where can you buy Lansinoh pads from? Leaking milk is waking me more than my DD, so I really want some good pads!

bewilderbeast · 18/03/2007 21:27

the tommee tippee pads are exactlt the same as the lansinoh ones - honestl there is no difference, I got mine from tescos, I think you can get lansinoh ones from boots

Michaelangelo · 18/03/2007 21:43

Mothercare sell the Lansinoh ones, they are pretty much teh same as Tommee Tippee both are great and much better than any others, no leaks and I used to leak a lot at night with Avent of Johnson ones.

GroovyChic · 18/03/2007 22:01

Tommee Tippee ones are excellent, no leaks at all.

margo1974 · 18/03/2007 22:08

I tried the lily padz and they're not very good if your nipples are sore.

If you can unattach a post it note from your nipple without discomfort, then get them as they would be cost effective. Not that I put post it notes on my nipples...although it's an idea worth considering, I'm sure DH would read them then!

you can get Lansinoh ones here

I liked the J & J ones - stayed put and were quite discreet under clothes. Cheaper ones were itchy and crackly for me!

midnightexpress · 19/03/2007 09:16

The Boots ultra slim ones seem pretty much the same as the lansinoh ones to me (only cheaper). can't bear the Johnson's ones - they seem to stick to my nipples (TMI?).

sockmonkey · 19/03/2007 09:24

Another vote for tommee tipee here. the boots ultra slim are almost as good, but the tape is too strong and perminantly glues itself to the inside of your bra.

rabster · 19/03/2007 09:27

I found the J and J ones split, and left clear plastic stuff on my nipples. This was later found in DS's nappy... not impressed.

soundbites · 19/03/2007 14:46

thanks for your replies - will try some of your recommendations and hope for fewer blushes about damp patches!

Another vote for Tommee Tippee here. The only thing that I didn't like about them is that they are all individually wrapped, so you have to faff about getting them out of the packet first!

I loathed the Avent ones - never stayed in place, and soaked through far too quickly.

SydneyB · 19/03/2007 19:29

So are the Lansinoh ones - FAR too much packaging when you're rushing to get dressed whilst DD takes brief nap!
