My baby is 3 weeks old and after a very difficult start at breast feeding with terrible engorgment and mastitis I would like to introduce a bottle at night. I have tried to express but end up with extremely painful engorged breasts again. I was considering giving a formula feed at night but am worried that by missing a feed will be back at square one with engorged breasts. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, NK....not sure why you would want to introduce a bottle at night at this time. With a history of engorgement and mastitis, it's asking for trouble, sorry

Maybe this is something you can think about later, when bf is more established and your supply has settled down - what do you feel about that?

Oh - and can you get a new user name : )

Hi if this is your 1st bf baby I too would say just try and stick to bf for a few more weeks now. I suffered badly with engorgement (ccouldn't lie down on my back is it was too painful and i've had mastitis) it is incredibly painful etc.

I bf my youngest 3 and I do promise you with subsequent babies by boobs settled much much quicker each time and engorgement was less of a problem.
