my bottlefed 11 week old is a very light eater. he's never eaten the recommended daily amount and he almost always loses interest after the first 2 ounces. he's only in the 20th percentile of weight and is gaining slowly but the doctor isn't concerned, but of course i am. anyone have any words of wisdom?

my ds was like this when little. however, i found i was feeding him too frequently as i assumed he was crying cos he was hungry when actually he was tired/had wind/was uncomfy. might be worth delaying a feed by a little to see what happens. obviously, if he needs fed then feed him. we ended up on roughly 3 hourly feeds during the day, less at night. incidently, he started on the 40th percentile and is now 8 mths ahd on 91st and eats everything in sight!

jj131, don't worry. he will eat however much he wants to. as long as he isn't losing weight then you know you're feeding him enough. someone has to be on the 20th centile, and your ds happens to be that someone.
My ds never took the recommended amounts and is a strapping 2 yr old now with an appetite like a horse.
Just think, if you were breastfeeding you'd never even know how much he was having, so don't fret. Trust him to tell you how much he needs.

It is worrying - we've had difficulties and ended up at hospital to seek advice. Guidelines drive you crazy and I became obsessed counting ounces and stressing when she'd not had enough. Have to trust them to tell you and problem arose when switched to formula. As said guess she'd always done it but whilst breast feeding never knew.
Still count and worry so sympathise.
