Anyone used Mothercare's steriliser bottles?

I'm taking my 3 month old on holiday to see my parents who live in Hong Kong and need some advice on bottles and sterilising when away from home. I am bottle feeding only and so get through 6-7 a day.

I see Mothercare do a 'steriliser bottle' that they say you can put in the microwave. Has anyone used these and can tell me how they work and whether they might be a good option for a month away from home??

Any other suggestions for bottle feeding and sterilising away fom home would be appreciated!

Thanks

quite curious to see the answers as i too am off with my ds...your other option is to use 'milton' steralising fluid/tablets. It's for cold water, and you don't need to rinse it afterwards..and I am planning to take a load of 'steribottles' for plane too, just in case we get delayed. HTH

Milton is a good suggestion - all you need then is the bottles and the water, and a big bucket!

shimmer...I know you can get milton in oz (my mum has already been out to get in, plus a 'new' bucket, which she's steralised - she's being a little anal!) so you might be able to get it in HK too, or otherwises boots/sains/tescos have it in the baby section

oh i had the steralising bottles with dd2. very easy to you, and were some of my favourites. the bottles tell you how many minutes to put them on for depending on how many bottles u have in the microwave at a time (i think six is the maximum).

you put a measured amount of water into the bottle cap, place the ring in, then the teat with the tongs over it, then snap the bottle on. keep it resting upside down on the lid.

very easy.

i loved the steriliser bottles. they were a godsend!

colditz · 09/03/2007 21:52

when are you going? If you will have access to a dishwasher you won't need to steralise anyway

skirmish · 09/03/2007 21:52

quick question to misdee and lissie - do you have to use 'special' teats or do other ones fit? (i use avent so would be handy it they fitted on the mothercare bottles)

misdee · 09/03/2007 21:53

use the teats provided.

just buy one to see how u get on with it.

skirmish · 09/03/2007 21:53

thanks

lissielou · 09/03/2007 21:54

i used the avent teats with it.

We used to go away with DS a lot as XP's parents live abroad - we bought the sterile disposable bottles (from Boots and other such places) they are AMAZING!

We didn't have to worry about sterilising botles at all.

We bought the Lindam sterilising microwave bags (reusable) for his dummy and spoons etc..

You wouldn't use the bottles all the time, they are obviously not as good as real bottles, but for a holiday they are perfect. When feeding is over, you just chuck it in the bin so there is NO mess or cleaning or sterilising which is ideal when you are away from home.

but then there is landfill bassmama

i couldnt get o nwith steribottles. bought a pack once and a carton of formula as had run out whebn out for longer than expected, and the thing leaked on me. dd2 also had a very good suck and screamed as the teat was too slow.

BassMama · 10/03/2007 01:39

at landfill.. never thought like that!

When we first used them we found they leaked but you just have to screw the lid on REAL tight until it wont click any more and they dont leak - also regarding the teats - theyre are different sizes of flow (thats not how to word it?!!) available (its 0-3, 3-6 and 6-12 months i think?) although most shops dont always have all the sizes available we found..

Brilliant. thanks for all the info guys! If anything there's too much choice now!!

I think your idea of getting some 'steribottles' for the plane and other outings sounds good skirmish.

Good to know you can use avent teats with the steriliser bottles.... the formula's going to taste slightly different over in HK so would rather not confuse ds with a different teat too!

Those lindam steriliser bags look really useful too. Thanks BassMama. Will definitely give those a try before we go.

Skirmish do they have all the same formulas over in oz as they do here?? I don't think we can get SMA in Hong Kong, so am trying to find an alternative at the moment. Or thinking I'll just take a big tin over with me...
