DS bf's for ages - is he having a laugh?

DS is almost 10 weeks, and everytime he feeds he tends to spend between 45mins to an hour ! He normally has both breasts. Whilst he is feeding he seems to be very happy, sometimes sucking away and dozing away at the same time, although he will wake up now when I wind him. I'm not sure if he is having a laugh and whether I should 'unplug' him sooner. On one hand I'd like to get on with things but on the other I obviously don't want to deprive him of his food. He generally will go 3 hrs between feeds, and I have noticed if I do take him off after 15 mins he is quite happy to wait for a bit until I return to finish the feed. Also if DH feeds him a bottle of EBM, he'll finish the bottle within 10 mins. Could it be I have a slow let down as I notice when I express I can only do 4oz in 15-20 mins ? Or is spending this long feeding at his age normal?

TBH 45 mins sounds fairly normal to me, metrobaby, although it might be worth paying careful attention to his sucks. Tiktok will be able to explain better than me, I'm sure, but when they've been flutter sucking (the little tickly flutters at the end of a feed) for about 10 mins you can safely take them off as they've had the bulk of their feed.

Ds2 is 7 weeks and he can take anywhere between 35mins - 1hour for a feed. I remember even when ds1 got more efficient, he would still have the occasional 45minute feed even at 6-7months old.

georgina is right - sounds normal, and you can get away with taking him off sooner than he would like to at times....you get to know when he will 'allow' you to do this

Metrobaby,

Same thing with my 10 week old! Sometimes if I am in a rush I'll take him off after half an hour and usually get away with this.

He's probably just enjoying cuddling up and having a nice suck as well as a feed - so go on, unplug him and he'll let you know if he's bothered!

Bless. Feel all broody again.
