4 month old twisting head away when feeding with nipple in his mouth - ouch!!

Anyone have experience of this and know why it is happening or what I can do? Maybe two or three feeds a day it is happening, sometimes more, over the last week. He will be feeding normally then suddenly starts wriggling, hitting me and then twisting his head round whilst clamping down on my nipple - it is agony and I unlatch him straight away because it hurts so much but then he does it again and again until I have to stop the fees completely. Then he gets upset because he wants to feed again.

Any ideas?! I don't remember my dd doing this so I'm confused!

I don't know if it is relevant but his poo has been a bit green the last few days and explosive!

Mine did this back in the day. It was usually when they were getting full and sleepy. Like trying to stay awake. Was worse when the teeth started cutting. < curls toes at the memory >

Mine goes through bouts of this for a few days at a time then goes back to normal. Not sure of the cause. Trying to prise their gums apart with your finger isn't easy!

Could he just be having a look around? If so you could feed with your back to the room or cover him with a muslin to stop him getting distracted.

God, you're bringing it all back for me, this phase was toe-curling! It did end though, not that I can tell you how long it lasted. I used to feed with my thumb or finger literally rested on ds's cheek, poised to pry apart mouth and nipple should the dreaded "clench and jerk" occur.

Ouch, my little one did this. It was horrible! It didn't last very long thankfully, I can't remember how long but I got through it. I'd do what Epoxy is suggesting.

Yep mini Moss is same age and does this! Usually first feed of the day when my let down is like a hose pipe, or when he's in an "interesting" environment ... Just going with it, and trying not to scare him when I squeak!

Well I'm glad I'm not alone! It isn't him looking around I don't think because he is twisting downwards so can't see anything and his eyes are usually squeezed shut when he does it! He seems cross when he does it.

Anyway I'll try keeping my hand there to stop him as soon as he does it!

Green poo indicated too much foremilk and not enough hind milk, so likely to be a result of the shorter feeds rather than the cause as the foremilk is prevalent at the beginning of a feed
