no poo for 2 days!

My ds of 3 months has not had a poo for two days. Last one was huge! he is breast fed and seems quite happy. His wet nappies are not as heavy but he is feeding the same amount if not more. Is this normal?

Very normal. When exclusive bf babies are over 4-6 weeks, they can go ages without pooing. I think my DS2 was pooing once a week for a while.

Thanks. Have been concerned that a very explosive nappy is coming!

NQC is right - my DD's pre-weaning record was, iirc, 15 days. Think of the money you'll save on nappies/time you'll save doing laundry. As long as he seems comfortable and feeds well and his tummy is not rigid, do not worry and don't try to ignore anyone who suggests he is constipated and that you should feed him juice (grrr). Breastfed babies are just super efficient at using up all of their food and so there is less waste. It's very clever really.

Yes, anything up to two weeks () is quite normal (although some breastfed babies will continue to poo several times a day -- mine did and I was mightily annoyed that I didn't get that breastfeeding perk).

There may be a very explosive nappy coming! On the rare occasion when DD did go, there seemed to be quite a lot...

My DS2 didn't seem to produce that much when he went, tbh. I mean, it was notable, but not the head-to-toe effect I was fearing.

I miss the days when my ds only pooed once a week. Now he's on solids it's 3 times per day, including one about 5am!!!. Enjoy it, it's normal

LadyClaret · 18/02/2007 22:01

Thanks for the reassurance. Now if I could get him to last longer than 2 hours between feeds in the day and sleep through in the night he would make his mummy very happy!

If it's any comfort Lemonaid I always felt I'd have preferred a small poo a few times a day to the HUGE, very leaky poo every three days.
