DD is 4 days old. She did giant meconium poos the first 2 days and nothing since! I know bf babies can go a long time without, but I thought that was later on. She hasn't passed all the meconium.

Feeding loads, no troubles, milk been in for 2 days, plenty wet nappiess.

OK I havent read all thread. My ds had problems and midwife did the following.

Lay on back, hold his ankles crossed together (as if you were changing the baby) push little legs as close to head as possible and wait patiently with a ready nappy under the messy end.

Looks uncomfortable but harmless. MW waited for approx 5 mins (seemed longer) but we got the results we hoped. Good luck

What I mean is push little feet as close to face/head as possible

like you are folding the body in half!!!!

She's somewhat difficult to rouse during the day - typical newborn I thought! Though once wide awake she is eager to feed. She doesn't do a lot of 'awake' time that isn't feeding or crying though. Mind you, she had a nice bath this evening and was quite interested in all the goings on and happy. She's taken a coupld of REALLY good active feeds today, the others have been less eager. And it's reassuring when she pulls off with milk pouring down her chin!

I'm feeling a bit better about things. DS is with his grandparents tonight so DH is going to help out a bit more during the night. And we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Thanks again everyone.

Meant to say that she does wake herself for feeds... just usually at longer intervals than I would prefer at the moment. I'm trying to encourage a feed every 2 hours or so and she doesn't seem to pleased at that! Sorry, rambling now.

suzi, all that sounds normal.....it will help you encourage her to feed if you keep her close to you, in your arms, rather than consciously waking her. Keeping her close will mean you can spot early feeding cues and respond to them

We have poo and LOADS of it! Bright orangey yellow as it should be - but a bit stinky. DS was the same!

Very pleased. Going to get an accurate weight tomorrow and if thats good I'll be happy.

orangey is good and usually is a sign that they get plenty of hindmilk, as far as I know!

Brilliant, Suzi!

Erm... how nuts is it that I've been elated all day because she had a HUGE (did I mention that ) pooey nappy??? I even called everyone to tell them.

Many thanks again ladies for giving me much needed advice, support and generally keeping me sane(ish).
