Baby not eating

My daughter is 8 months old, has a cough and a cold and has cut right back on the amount of milk she will drink. Today she has had a total of 10 ounces and I have even tried (but failed) giving her a dreamfeed (first time in 3 moonths) to try to get some more fluids into her. She has very rosy cheeks but her gums don't feel hot or lumpy.
This has been going on for maybe 5 days, with her taking a mximum of 16 oz per day and a minimum of 8. I did mention it to the GP on Monday, but she sort of glossed over it. Should I be worried or is this something babies all do? I may be losing perspective over this...!

Hi there. I can't answer you with any certainty, but my rule of thumb is, how is my child presenting to me? Is he smiley, his usual self, playing and crawling as usual. If so, then I let changes in appetite come and go...whilst keeping an eye of course.

I think if something was really wrong, then his behaviour would change.
You mention that your daughter has a cold, this may be the reason why she is drinking less, in fact, I would imagine that is why.

If it persists I would visit your Gp again, but otherwise hopefully in a few days time she will have picked up again.

Sorry to not be of any more help, i'm only another mum, not an expert, but thinking of you and hope your daughter feels better soon.

Ds has had virtually no appetite for the last 5 days too. He had a bad tummy and now seems to have a cold or something. It's not the first time, fortunately, so not too worrying for me. They make up for it when they recover and then eat for England!! I think Selee is right that if your dd is behaving normally and is bright and alert then you probably don't have to worry. Lethargy, dry nappies and any other sign of dehydration are what you have to worry about as I understand it...

Thanks Selee. She is behaving pretty different from normal (much more tired and grumpy), but I have been putting this down to her cold. I think maybe if she gets worse I'll take her back to the Dr, otherwise I'll try to hold off for a few days.

Thanks Mumpbump- she has had a couple of wet nappies each day so hopefully she's ok. I have asked the nursery to offer her plenty of water each day, so hopefully she won't dehydrate too badly.
I'm off to bed now - to get some kip before the coughing fit related crying begins...!
