Just finished BF after 18 months - how long until nork size settles???

  • Title says it all, really. Finally dropped DS's bedtime bfeed earlier this week. Feeling sad and bit useless (why?) and thought it might help to plan the purchase of some nice new bras - but I don't want to find that I need a different size in 6 weeks time. Guess I'll wait a couple of weeks before splashing out - is that long enough - or longer than necessary (I really need cheering up!).
Thanks in advance, NWB

Ooo! Me too, I want to know too. I want to get nice bras ASAP, I am truly fed up of my BFing ones.

Posey · 14/02/2007 21:52

I did a bit of extended feeding with ds, still going to 2.5 at bedtime only. Anyway once I stopped I looked at myself and thought "great! Empty sacks or deflated balloons"
Anyway, hurrah, they regrew and refirmed, possibly aided by power walking (all that arm action) and are now better than ever almost (certainly they weren't as good as this after I stopped feeding my first). But it took time before I felt confident they were as they were going to be.
There is hope , but I think before spending a lot on an expensive beauty I'd maybe go for a slightly cheaper option.

Thanks for your responses.
Posey, when you say 'it took time' - roughly how long, do you think??? I'm not planning on spending mega-bucks, just not wanting to waste money as we don't have that much at the moment! And did you feel low when you finished, or chuffed/proud/ready to party???
Thanks,
NWB

I knew that "it took some time" was a rubbish answer! I really can't remember, but what I think happened was they settled after about a month, then changed gradually over a year (but actually think this was more to do with the exercise TBH)
Because you have been going some time (and am I right in thinking only doing a night feed recently) you won't have loads of milk "to dry up". When I stopped, I just stopped and had no leakage or anything. They just got less empty looking, a bit fuller.

And no, I didn't feel sad I'd stopped. I'd been going a long time and was just on the verge of feeling resentful about being tied to bed times (he never took a bottle, always had bf at night so that was me for 2.5 years!!). I also felt that it was time to reclaim my boobs. All the time I bf I wasn't so keen on dh touching them, which I really had liked. I also think it lowered my libido so anoother reason to stop. I just felt very proud that I'd done such a long job, and celebrated by buying new bras.

BTW hope my first post wasn't too flippant. I hadn't read your post clearly enough and hadn't spotted you were feeling a bit low.

NotWavingBut · 14/02/2007 22:28

Wah, just 'lost' a message.
Posey - no, it wasn't a 'rubbish' answer at all, and you didn't sound flippant. In theory I'm pleased to have finished bfeeding, that just hasn't filtered through yet! Last feed was on Monday night, and so far no discomfort or anything - am even wondering how much he used to actually get?

I think that perhaps I need to take up walking (vigorously, of course) or some such thing. Or perhaps even get off the sofa??? (Looks thoughtful whilst accepting small beer from DH).
And MrsTittleMouse - I'm tempted to burn my nursing bras, what do you think????

Yes! Do it! Do it!

Isn't that a sure-fire way of conceiving again though?!?

NotWavingBut · 14/02/2007 22:59

Oooooh, that's put me right off!
At least, I think it has.....

Hi NWB (found you at last!),

you keep telling me you don't want another one...... I see you are finally weakening!

I'll be home in half an hour to get started on number 3

JaD.

USAUKMum · 16/02/2007 14:08

NWB, mine took about a month / 5 wks to settle after dropping bf at 18mths. Of course there is the hormone wave to come yet at around the same time DH battons down the hatches for this period and just keeps shoving chocolate through the door before entering. The first time, the hormone thing was completly unexpected, as was down to 1 feed for the last 2 mths but after talking through with friends was ready for it the next time.

Then I suggest, very nice new bras. In fact I still go out every couple months and buy a new one and I haven't fed in 15 mths

NotWavingBut · 16/02/2007 14:32

Thanks USAUKMum - hadn't anticipated a hormone wibble, I'll look forward to that one! Like your DH's coping strategy, though, that sounds good.
JaD - shouldn't you be working, or at least working on a budget plan for all my lovely new underwear????

OP posts:
USAUKMum · 16/02/2007 14:47

don't forget the budget line for the chocolate as well. Something like Green & Blacks

NotWavingBut · 16/02/2007 15:10

USAUKMum, this is sounding better by the minute!
Feel free to add any further ideas for my DH to help me through this difficult time....

OP posts:
USAUKMum · 16/02/2007 16:23

Rigby & Pellar for bras......

USAUKMum · 16/02/2007 16:33

and of course the line for the trip to London, if you don't live nearby, something posh. To use previous budget item (R&P).

justadad · 16/02/2007 17:03

NWB is already accustomed to posh undies - I've bought her Aubade, Lejaby and Barbara sets before.

And I'm more than willing to get her some more once Norksville has decided what size to settle upon..... That's not too unreasonable is it?

Plus there are a couple of sets of Aubade that are currently quite a good fit!

So I'll be monitoring changes in size with my digital cup size monitors and let you all know when they've settled down.

ScamperingWombats · 16/02/2007 17:35

Steady on, JustaDad, there's a fine line between spoiling your DW and spoiling yourself!

USAUKMum · 16/02/2007 19:45

Okay a DH who knows whats what, change that line item to a trip to Paris then
