For how long do you need to wear a bra at night?

IME, till you stop leaking - the main purpose of the bra being to hold the breast pads in place.

MissGolightly · 14/02/2007 14:35

I have never worn a bra at night because I hated the feeling (I don't wear pjs for the same reason). I wasn't aware that you were supposed to - it is just to help prevent leaks or do your boobs end up round your ankles if you don't? It's obviously too late for me - have been bfing for months!

dressedupnowheretogo · 14/02/2007 14:38

i wear my soft maternity ones loike crop tops

sophiaverloren · 14/02/2007 14:40

I was wearing one probably for about 4 months - not because of breastpads but because of discomfort. I wore a bra at night from about week 12 of pregnancy by the way as well, so my experience may not reflect yours in any way!!

I stopped wearing one when I felt I didn't need one any more. That's probably a more helpful way of putting it.

I don't leak, but, in the immortal words of Ruby Wax, "Whenever I lie down my boobs flee for refuge in my armpits!".

10 months in, and I'm still in 'em... but otherwise I wake up in a puddle (had a breast pad slippage last week and DH woke up with a milky back!)

determination · 14/02/2007 15:40

beleive this...!

i always have worn my bra in bed.. just what ever bra i had on that day, but i splashed out a bought this one which is Amazing then i decided i would also get the other one they do this one does not look nice at all but is surprisingly very comfortable and has a great support.

I should have bought Sleeping Bras a long time ago, but didn't know they existed until i found that website...

i wore nursing pyjamas that have vest tops with secret support. they were sufficient to hold breast pads in place for. think i wore them for first year. when ds was 1 yr 1 cut down to morning and night feed only and milk was a lot more 'controllable'.

PrettyCandles · 14/02/2007 16:15

So don't they serve any purpose other than pad-retention? Do lactating boobs not need extra support at night as they do in the daytime?

Wear a bra at night since boobs are currently huge. Started wearing one 7 weeks in to pg when boobs inflated and the situation only got worse when i started bfing. Will stop once my boobs return to normal - don't want them to start sagging before their time

MrsTittleMouse · 14/02/2007 21:39

I wear one for support, and also because when I didn't last week I woke up to huge wet patches on the bottom sheet and duvet. DD is 4 months, and I've worn one since I was just pregnant (needed to stop the sheets brushing against my nipples).
Bravado are comforable enough to sleep in and fit me better than traditional "sleep" bras.

Jennster · 14/02/2007 22:16

I'm wearing mothercare sleep bras but they are more expensive than the ones linked below which look quite good. £21 for 2 I think. Found I only wore them to keep breastpads in place, but now have got so used to them am still wearing 1 year on even though I'm only feeding morning and night. I am pregnant again though.

Runninglate · 15/02/2007 11:27

I don't use breast pads, I use Lilly Padz and so don't need to wear a bra at night!

ja9 · 15/02/2007 13:21

Runninglate - never seen them before...

don't look too comfy..

do you get on well with them?

Runninglate · 15/02/2007 18:16

I don't notice I've got them on to be honest. Also you get a smooth line under your top. A friend now wears them and having done breast pads and lilly padz, she's all for the LP. I've never worn breast pads so I can't compare the two!

The new Mooncup .

I'm still not clear, though, on whether I need/ought to wear a bra at night, or whether it's purely for my own comfort.

I tend to wear a camisole to provide a bit of support and find that I am more comfy as a result. I'm a DD (not enorm) if that helps. I think that if you are on the larger size, then support becomes more necessary to keep the milk ducts nice and open and healthy. I think your body will tell you by its comfort levels what is right for you.

IMO. HTH.
