bf lying down, cosleeping, coping at night...

DD is 2 days old and is a big fan of feeding . However at night she just wants to feed/suckle and nod off at my boob. Wont go to her own bed at all. Consequently I'm getting about an hours sleep . I can't seem to settle cosleeping as I worry! During the day she has fed every 2-3 hours and slept in between without the need for cuddles. Tried to wake her more yesterday to feed but she was having none of it.

Anyway, in danger of falling asleep sitting up when feeding so I need to work out how to bf lying down and cosleep. I bf DS for a year but never did this. I have big (J/K) cup boobs and can;t seem to get into any position lying down that make them accessible for DD.

Any tips?

congratulations on dd!

I also have J cup books (possibly larger, that's just the biggest size that John Lewis do...) and have had mixed success with bf lying down. By which I mean we go through phases of being able to do it easily and then hit problems for a while, so don't think if you can't do it now it won't ever happen.

What I would do is have a big pile of pillows behind me, but start by being propped up on one elbow, leaning back slightly, and use the other hand to get dd latched on. Then when she was settled and sucking, I could stretch out my propping arm, lay down and have my head on the pillows (does this make sense?). You'll probably also need to experiment with her positioning too - what works for me is to have her on her side, with her tummy in closer than her head, but I guess that all depends on boob shape and angle and so on.

hth - and hope you get some sleep soon.

My DS suckled constantly at first- he seemed to know that if he did the milk would come in quicker- which it did! He is now 4 weeks old and I am just beginning to get him to sleep in his cot- tightly swaddled as this stops him from waking up it seems (fingers crossed though as it is still VERY early days and I don't want to tempt fate!). My boobs are big too and I did the same as RubyRioja when I was feeding in bed and co-sleeping. You should find that as time goes on her stomach will hold more and therefore she will be able to cope longer between feeds. Then you may be able to transfer her to a cot more easily. Hope that helps!
