determination · 09/02/2007 22:33

I just want other mums to be releived from the pain as quickly as i was.. I honestly don't beleive that i am the ONLy lucky BFing mum to come across these...

Commission??!! If only - i would actually start handing out fliers too

Sterny · 14/02/2007 12:43

They are fab. determination recommended them for my sore nips and after only a couple of days wearing them I am now pain free. Hurray! Thanks determination!

determination · 14/02/2007 13:40

MissTea has also benefited from the use of Silverette

So glad that more people are experiencing Natural Healing at its best !!

It is a total wonder how they work but, the mystery behind them have kinda passed my mind now - they just do work and very quickly at that.. mine are kept like a special treasure for next time!

My husband, who is a geeky scientist, says that there is extensive evidence about silver's healing properties apparently. the leaflet that came with them didn't make much sense and appeared to have been rather badly translated.

determination · 14/02/2007 18:03

i didnt closely read the leaflet just how to clean and apply them. Then hoped for the best! I dont even have it now to have a close look. Is it the same infor thats on the website??

Sterny,

Does your dh know how they heal then?? I couldn't beleive that i was actually watching the healing process before my eyes and in such a short time.. it was amazing.

Are you using them still to prevent re-cracking or not?

OP posts:
Sterny · 14/02/2007 19:06

Have just managed to find the leaflet. This is what it says:

'The scientific nature of the remedy is demonstrated by its use in maternity wards in several Italian hospitals, following the recommendation of the ward's presiding doctor. In fact, silver has healing properties and is a powerful antibacterial, known as such since ancient times. Today it is used in medicine as a disinfectant for newborn's eyes and in many other contexts'.

Not sure about the disinfectant for newborn's eyes bit, sounds a bit odd to me.

There is then a complicated scientific explanation which I won't type because it makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. Will ask dh for a translation for non-scientists and will post later on.

Am not using them at the moment as no soreness. I never had any cracks, but they worked a treat on the soreness. I went from being quite tender to absolutely fine in 48 hours. Magic!

MissTea4Me · 14/02/2007 21:50

Just to add my testimonial here-- I got these after determination recommended them and they healed up my cracked nipple which had been open for over a week in just a couple of days. Sterny, if you're still on here, determination suggested I ask you to also ask your dh whether they might do anything for thrush. Think I might have a case coming on but would like to avoid all the meds if at all poss.

Sterny · 14/02/2007 22:11

Ok here goes...

'Tiny atoms of silver manage to wiggle their way through the protective layers around bacteria, get into the gooey bits (of the bacteria) in the middle and stop them being able to multiply.'

Dh thinks it will work on fungi (e.g. thrush) because he has used silver cream on dogs' manky ears.

On the nickel allergy front the silverettes are sterling silver which is 92.5% silver and dh thinks there is quite a lot of nickel in the alloy.

determination · 14/02/2007 22:34

so you can get silver in a cream too now?! education here or what?

how does he know of the nickel quantity?

OP posts:
Sterny · 15/02/2007 10:20

This may be far too much information :

Silver cream is a prescription only medication ('Flamazine' - it's used in human burns victims as well as dogs with manky ears.....). It's a really old treatment but I (Sterny's DH) find it useful occasionally when other ear treatments have failed in tricky dogs. You can also get silver-impregnated dressings and bandages for infected wounds / burns.

I was struggling to work out why the silverette's work when they're a big lump of silver rather than in a cream - On a bacterial scale having a block of silver nearby is probably like balancing a mousetrap on top of a block of flats and expecting the mouse on the ground floor to get caught.

I think rubbing them with bicarb of soda probably erodes the top layer of silver and releases some of the silver ions to get to work. That's my guess anyway.

I don't know how I know about silver - it was tucked in the recesses of my brain along with a whole bunch of other useless information .......

determination · 15/02/2007 14:32

Very interesting.. i have saw the silver coated elastoplasts but when trying to find research based info on silver healing - i failed miserably and concluded that it doesn't really matter as it worked a treat and helped me loads.

I actually had a really wide, deep, open gash, at the very base of the nipple/areola and it was amazing as each time i removed the silverette i could see how much it had healed. It was excrutiatingly painful.. but felt soothed and releived as soon as the silverette was applied.

Silver healing i assume is still very new in the UK - especially when it comes to BFing problems. I just wish more women knew about them as they truely are a godsend.

Sternys DH...>

Do you think this Silverlon Pad would work as well as the silverette? And actually treat Mastitis like it says? As i suppose with Mastitis the infection is actually within the breast and not on the surface..

I apologise for all the questions but it is just so good to discuss the Hows and Whys with someone who has knowledge to help me understand it a bit more!

OP posts:
Sterny · 15/02/2007 17:17

Sterny's Dh writes: It looks like it makes more sense to me than the silverettes because it has a much greater surface area. Not sure about for mastitis as if there is an infection it is usually quite deep as far as I understand. It is rather like putting a silver plaster on your belly when you have a liver infection.

Must say that I don't actually know what I am talking about. Only theorising from first principles!

Really interesting to read of your experiences determination.
I wonder why you are being encouraged to give up b/feeding in this case?

i read about silver pyjamas a while back.
Sound amazing.

Sterny · 18/03/2007 21:20

Moondog - I don't think determination was being encouraged to give up breastfeeding. I think she was bumping the thread up for Moody who had started another thread entitled 'nurse wants me to quit breastfeeding' IYSWIM

moondog · 18/03/2007 21:58

Oh righto.Thanks.

EnchantedPand · 16/03/2013 10:25

This works. I spent hundreds of pounds on heat/cold packs, supplements etc. etc. 4 trips to the doctor for what I thought was thrush. It probably was to begin with but because they wouldn't treat me properly I ended up with an abscess (only found after an ultrasound and biopsy!) after that and taking antibiotics I took no more chances and bought these. The blister that wouldn't go away on one nipple healed within 24 hours and both nipples were completely normal within a few days. These little things are expensive - £40 for both but they do work. So before you start smearing yourself with countless creams and cut out all sugar and boil wash your clothes try these because I honestly wouldn't be feeding now if it weren't for these after 10 weeks of BF-ing hell!
