Neurotic mother alert. 4 month old weight gain

Am bfing ds exclusively. He is 4 months. I have weighed him every week as I have an aquascale bath and am a bit obsessed with measuring as I have a disabled daughter who was tiny for such a long time. He had been gaining really well (born 7lb 3oz, 25th centile and now 17lb something between 75th and 90th) but this last week he hasn't gained at all and has perhaps even lost. I didn't weigh him at the same time this week but am really paranoid now?! He used to feed at least every hour if not more but is going 2hrs sometimes now.
I have also lost half a stone in a month, could this be why? He seems to be getting enough milk as he pukes it everywhere and I can feel him swallowing

Do I just need a slap round the chops and to be told to stop weighing him so frequently?!

Is he perky, interested in the world, energetic?
If so I wouldn't stress too much about the weighing. Nor would I weigh him so frequently.

I think at this age they get a lot more efficient at feeding so don't need to eat so often.

If, as LBP says, he's still active then try not to worry about him.

And maybe get rid of the scales? Flowers

Phillipa12 · 29/09/2016 20:23

Have you measured him? All of mine either lost or gained very little weight if they had had a growth spurt. Do get rid of the scales though or weigh him less frequently and your weight loss will make no difference in your breast feeding / milk making abilities!

He has crossed many centiles up from his birth weight. I wouldn't worry at all. You don't want an obese toddler!

PacificOcean · 29/09/2016 20:32

Don't worry OP. I know the HV expects babies to follow their percentiles but mine certainly didn't! He sounds like he's doing fine, a week with no gain is no problem at all.

Swirlingasong · 29/09/2016 20:33

If he looks healthy and seems alert, he's probably fine. 2 hours between feeds at 4 months is fine and pretty normal I'd say.

Dc1 had weight gain issues early on and the hv made me go for weigh ins every week or fortnight. We had lots of times when there was very little gain and I was plunged into worry over my bright, active,healthy-looking baby.

With dc2 I refused to go to the clinic more than once a month at most and weight was always fine. After 6 months I compared their charts and found that had I only got dc 1 weighed at the intervals that dc2 was their graphs would have been exactly the same and we would have saved lot of worry.

Obviously, it's important to keep an eye on weight, but if they are otherwise healthy, definitely don't weigh weekly!

He's absolutely fine in himself. He did have a LOT of green nappies this morning so perhaps has had a tummy upset.

I will stop weighing so frequently. Am just a worry wart. Although he's my 2nd it's like being a ftm again as dd was/is so different to most children.

Ps. Thank you!

Are his nappies back to normal today, OP?

Penguina · 02/10/2016 19:42

grouchy yes all back to chicken korma now. He decided to show me at 3.30am all over our hotel bed 😣

His first tooth has just poker through his gums so maybe that caused the green and frothy poo!
