would be grateful for some advice on which number teats i should be using. dd is 5.5 months and i am currently switching her from breast to bottle. she has been having ebm from 7 wks so bottles themselves are not a problem but i'm not sure which teats i should be using. at the moment, i am using mam number 2 (medium flow) but how will i know when she would be ready for number 3 (fast flow) or should i be using those already?

hope somone can set me straight. thanks!

Signs to show a change in flow rate is needed can be - When your lo seems frustrated by the flow rate or starts to take longer and longer to take their milk or starts to fall asleep on every bottle (last one more likely in a younger baby though)

Be guided by your lo - the ages given on the teats are just a guide (fast flow normally say from 6 months+). My ds started medium flow teats, which are from 3 months, at about 8 weeks.

thanks seona, wil look out for these signs. the teats i have dont seem to have any age guide. she does take a long time with a bottle but i think that's just because she is getting used to them.

my ds is 5.5 months he is on fast flow teats and has been for over a month, was on medium flow from 4 weeks. he was falling asleep on the bottle because he couldnt get the milk out!

hi reid! might try her on the fast teats and see what happens - presumably it'll dribble out or something if she's not managing?

ds used to cough a little at first because he wasnt used to having so much milk in one go, but by the time he had taken one bottle he soon got the hangof it

it cant do any harm trying, you will know straight away if it not what your lo needs.

Hi olivo! Take your cue from your baby, but your dd may stay on the 2 teats for a while. My dd is 20 months and is still using newborn size 1 teats!! Any bigger and the milk dribbles out the side of her mouth!
