Giving up, first night without bedtime feed..... what happens next?!

Hi all

well my dd is 15 months and over the last month or so has reduced to just a bedtime feed.

she always fed to sleep but recently just hasn't dropped off resulting in lots of biting and then thrashing around on the bed with me as her pinch, scratch, thump (but also kiss) bag!

so tonight she had some cows milk and we lay down without the bf. actually it went quite well, only 30 mins of moderate thrashing and she dropped off.

my question is, what happens now? what will my boobs do? will it be very pronounced or not so bad as we were only doing 1 feed per day and that was more comfort than anything else?

emotionally i feel weirdly calm and a bit sad but not as bad as i expected.

any info gratefully recieved.

if memory serves me right it will hurt for a day or two and you may leak esp at night time when feed due so may be get someone else to do bedtime for a day or two

hi gothicmama

thanks for the info. i guess i can take painkillers, especially as not bf!

unfortunately there's only me so no one else to do the bedtime for me.

she slept nearly 12 hours and woke up a very happy cuddly girl.

Aahh bless (for both of you). Its a strange feeling isn't - like part of you is redundant!

I was a bit full and uncomfortable for about a week, just took paracetamol but also had to squeeze a bit a couple of times (I know your'e not meant to) but it soon settled down. I did however have milk for ages (months i think) if i gave a little squeeze out of curiosity.

well, a little update.

yesterday was night 5 without a feed and dd is really doing great.

she has barely asked for a feed and then it's not actually been at bedtime! more just before her bath when she's starting to get tired.

Monday/Tues/Weds I was a bit uncomfortable but not too bad. Weirdly my belly felt funny too but not sure that's connected.

I really feel like we hit the right time to do this. DD has adapted brilliantly and altho I have had a few sad moments I actually feel good about it too.

She's stopped thrashing around in frustration, now she just fidgets till she's comfy.

She likes to have a cuddle, lots of kisses, puts her face close to mine etc then she moves away and settles down. The hair pulling and stropping about and even the frustrated crying is coming to an end.

All in all, I really think this has been a success for us both.
