Feeding lying down: I don't get it!

My DD is 6 weeks old and EBF. We have a co-sleeper crib. I keep reading about how BF makes night feeds so easy because you just feed them lying down so you can sleep and it's all great. I can't seem to crack this.

DD struggles to latch on when we're lying down and gets frustrated. I have enormous breasts (40H at the moment Blush) and she's quite small so maybe that's the issue?

In addition, surely if you did leave baby next to you all night to latch on and off, all the night feeds would be off the same breast? Is this not a bad thing? I can't see how I could feed her off the other one, as if I turned around she would be between me and DH in the bed, which would be unsafe.

Is DD too little for this to work? Will it get easier when she's physically bigger, and has more control of her own body? Is the one breast thing just not something I need to worry about?

Placemarking! Will post a good video on techniques for BF lying down if I find one for future excavators in need of advice Smile

I couldn't do this until DD was about 8 weeks, we just couldn't get the hang of it but once she got bigger and I got less leaky it was sorted. She is 8 months and DH brings her into me when he gets up at 4am and sometime between then and 6 she will start shuffling about looking for boob. Gives me a little more sleep and it is the best snuggle times. x

How funny to see this pop up!

DD is 13.5 months now and still breastfed, often once during the night. I never ever did properly crack feeding lying down and for a year I have just sat up for almost every feed!

I didn't manage this until DS was a bit bigger, maybe about 5 months. After that it was a breeze and meant he could feed at night while I snoozed.
