Gave birth on Sunday morning and was discharged on Tuesday. I'm breastfeeding exclusively but I'm a bit worried.

Since the meconium nappies we've had no dirty nappies at all. The last one was yesterday early morning and was still meconium.

I phoned the hospital and they said this was fine as long as baby is still having wet nappies. Does this sound right? Everything I read online is so conflicting.

Also how will I know if the nappies are definitely wet? We are having wet nappies but how do I know if there is enough urine in there?

So worried, grateful for any advice.

Sorry for delay in updating, been feeding! Am also topping up with some expressed so pumping whenever she sleeps. Hopefully we can cut that out as soon as she's back on track.

I actually haven't phoned my midwife or the hospital as to be honest they've been sod all use so far! But as tiktok said I will be seeing midwife tomorrow so will mention it then and will also be able to get the baby weighed again. Hopefully she'll have gained as feeding seems a lot better.

The breastfeeding lady gave me a list of things to look out for and told me to take baby to A and E if she displays any of those symptoms so am keeping an eye out but so far she seems ok. She's part of the "infant feeding team" so I don't know exactly how that works, but she is in some way connected to the hospital or the council or something official...

bigmama - this review has info about expected weight loss in newborns digitalcommons.uri.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1009&context=nursing_facpubs and their findings indicate that day 3 is the nadir....babies should stop losing from then. They do say some of the record keeping in the studies is poor.

Whatever....waiting until day 6 to weigh is to miss the opportunity to spot babies who are not doing well.
