Tongue tie question?

susanjayneh · 25/01/2007 21:41

My son was born with a really bad tt which I had to wait for a week to get cut and this caused a nightmare with feeding etc. Does anyone know what the liklihood of this happening again is. No 2 due in may. Also is there anywhere I can get one cut privately as it seems there will still be a few week wait if its needed again.

Many thanks

Susan

I don't think anyone can really say Susanjayneh, but it is genetic so it could well happen again. I only just found out that my DS has tongue tie (5 months on for heaven's sake). We had terrible trouble with feeding but the HV told me that they wouldn't have cut it even if anyone had noticed! I hope someone comes back on your question about going private as I'd like my DS's seen to, if necessary, before he gets too much older.

Hi

I have two young dd's and both have been born with significant tongue ties.

I had terrible problems feeding as it hadnt been picked up not until my own community midwife came to see us at home, we were lucky in our area at the time (Bristol) it can be referred and sorted out easily,I cried more than dd when dd2 was born I was aware of the problem so when I had problems feeding I rang up the person who had done dd1 and got it done really quickly.

Rachel Hillan did my daughters if you are not local she may be able to give you some advice here is a list of places that divide them with phone numbers

Thanks for the link - seems the hospital I am going to does this - my MW said not though - typical.I think I'll book a hospital tour and ask them directly.

Many thanks for that.

Hi Susan

if there is a name and phone number I would ring directly and discuss your conerns with them, it also gives you an opportunity to ask if it is possible to get your baby looked at by the person who knows about tongue ties whilst still in hospital to avoid all the distress it can cause with feeding etc

good luck

Helen
