My milk takes ages to come through at evening feed, why?

4 month old DD gets very frustrated with the whole thing when she wants a nice feed before going to bed. My milk is free flowing in the mornings, I tend to express just so that I can be comfortable in bed and not soak through the towel onto the bed, but by 8ish at night it takes so long to come through I am sometimes surprised DD has not given up!
I have tried giving her her feed then waiting an hour and trying to express, to convince my boobs that they need to work harder at night, but can get very little out of them, only 2oz or so.
Also tried massaging them before the feed. Well, I tried this one night, I massaged when I was downstairs and was getting drips but by the time I had her upstairs she still had to try for 3-4 mins. Doesn't sound like much, but to my tired and frustrated LO is an age! I did also try it whilst she was screaming at me, lying on the bed waiting, and got drips again, but still she couldn't get it through fast enough. The let down just seems so slow!?
It does seem to slow down as the day goes on??
Is there anything I can be doing?

Hi fairysnuff
I had the similar problem and according to my HV its because your body gets tired so can't produce/ let down as much milk. My DS got to 4 months and I gave him formula for his last feed at around 8pm. I felt bad for a while as wanted to exclusively bf till 6 months but he loved it and started sleeping through till 7am. (he is now 7 months) If you dont want to bottle feed how about trying to nap in the afternoon and eating cake (my HV recommended cake)- sorry can't be any more help x

LOL!
I like the idea of cake!

Fairysnuff, in the evenings we tend to be more tired and all that, so, yeah, it does tend to affect the flow of the milk...try to rest more in the day and eat and drink to hunger/thirst...also, maybe expressing a lil before you feed your dd might help, i.e. express till your milk starts flowing and then latch your lil one on.
Oh, and trying to relax is always a good thing
