Really need someone to help get right positioning. No-one from NCT near me that comes out. Would gladly pay for some advice!

Call your hospital maternity ward and tell them you need to see an expert. There should either be someone at the hospital who runs a clinic or they should refer you to a breastfeeding clinic outside or a baby cafe. You could even ring them right now.

where are you kr?

thanks
Have spoken to someone from LLL - she was helpful but basically saying it's such early days (3 days old) that I need to just keep perservering. I think it's because he's not opening mouth wide enough which is a very tricky one to rectify.

I can speak to the midwives at the hospital and i I should be having a visit tomorrow but they do vary widely in their BF expertise.

I just don't want to end up in a real mess (like did with DS) where nipples are absolute agony. God I'd forgotten how hard BF can be.

Tease him with your nipple by touching his nose and also touching his cheek with it. Hand express a little drop and put it on his lips, tease a little more.. he will root for your nipple and open wide.

Make sure he isn't too hot, strip him down to the vest to waken him before you feed this may make him try harder too.

Positioning definately is the key to preventing cracked nipples but if you do get sore these little miracles worked a treat for me and completely healed me within 48 hours never to be cracked again ;)

Definately get in contact with your local midwives and hang in there...

I don't mean get the midwives to give you advice, I mean ask them to put you on to an expert! The hospital may well have a lactation consultant or a baby cafe on the premises. They should know where the nearest specialist clinic is.

when dd was tiny and didn't open her mouth wide enough, i 'posted' my nipple in.
