best breastpads?

I have just bought the ones from Sainsbury's because they were cheap but they are not absorbant at all and are falling to pieces in my bra. My bra always ends up soaking wet.

Can anyone recommend some other super-absorbant, good value breastpads?

Didn't mean to post the thread twice.

Johnson & Johnson - probably the dearest but by far and away the best in my experience

pooka · 19/01/2007 10:32

Another vote for Johnson and JOhnson.
Also liked the Lanishoh ones once further down the breast=feeding route - less conspicuous and excellent absorption.

pooka · 19/01/2007 10:33

Neither of these disnitegrate and both are super-absorbant. the J &J ones are more comfy and soft.

Cloudhopper · 19/01/2007 10:34

I would second the ones that are filled with that gel stuff (J&J, Lansinoh,Tommee Tippee etc). They are much more absorbent.

i would say tommy tippie by miles they are thin and bigger and all individually wrapped. quite expensive tho, i loved them i think i still have a few packs if you want me to send them for you my email is [email protected]

I like the Avent ones. Have tried the Tommy Tippee ones etc - and they are thinner - but they seem bigger and always seem to fold.

deaconblue · 19/01/2007 21:43

Best value and better for the environment are the washable ones. They are really soft next to your skin too (especially if tumble dried, although obviously that would negate the environment thing I've just said). They washed and wore well too, have recently put them away for when I have another baby

hotmama · 19/01/2007 22:11

Yep - I have also use the Avent washable ones - when I'm in the house - as they are much thicker - but very comfy!

rachelhill · 22/01/2007 20:50

Umm I guess I'm the only person here doing this so I may be slightly odd...but I have mass supply issues - wake up in puddles etc. And I use Avent Washables AND....wait for it...cut up terry nappy liners. They actually don't show up as much as the blooming Avent ones as well! And they are softer.

booge · 22/01/2007 20:53

The boots own slim pads are also gel filled and good value. I have to use good ones too or I'm wringing wet.

kathryn77 · 22/01/2007 20:58

Sainsburys are crap.. Avent or J&J the best x

purpleturtle · 22/01/2007 21:03

very cheeky this - but if you were interested in the Avent ones, perhaps you'd like to have a look here

BonyM · 22/01/2007 21:07

Lilypadz are brilliant.

Really work, and are invisible under most clothes which I found to be a massive bonus. Mine did tear a bit at the edges after a while but they lasted a fair while (until I stopped needing to use breastpads anyway).

determination · 22/01/2007 21:33

I ALWAYS used either tommee tippee or lansinoh as they are the gel like pads which were fantastic absorbtion and very thin although quite expensive. THEN i found these they are EXACTLY the same but nearly half the price.

MerryMarigold · 22/01/2007 21:36

Yeah, I had a HUGE problem with leaking, but found the lansinoh and tommy tippee ones were both fantastic, even though I used cheapy tesco for most of the time. I think in the end it was false economy as I had to change them so often, whereas the expensive ones seemed to last longer and absorb SO much. Next time I will stick to expensive. I have heard of someone cutting up sanitary towels and using them though!

determination · 22/01/2007 21:37

meant to say about the Lilypadz.. i was always unsure of these as they prevent the flow of milk rather than letting it flow and absorbing it. I felt this could cause blocked ducts which then may result in mastitis..

Olipop · 22/01/2007 21:40

Hi - I was lucky enough to do a breast pad market research so got to try loads and loads. If I remember rightly 'medula' sp??? washables were the best...Avent disposables were good and lilypadz were great for wearing with normal clothes (ie ones that don't look good with giant circles!).
I did find lilypadz could get a bit itchy.
I had massive oversupply problems too and found that a washable with a disposable on top was good as it helped stop any leakage. You had to be careful in your choice of top though!
Good luck.

mamama · 22/01/2007 21:42

I used Avent disposables. They are a bit bulky but really absorbent.

Groveregg · 23/01/2007 11:28

Has anyone else tried Chicco ones? I think they're only available from big Boots but I love them, really thin, but big and kind of curved so they fit. They come in individual packs inside the box which is a waste of packaging but apart from that they get my vote - and I think I've tried everything else everyone's mentioned.
