Alternative to breast milk in baby with dairy sensitivity

I am ready to give up breast feeding, have had enough at this stage. She is 16mths so I don't think I've done too badly. But I am having difficulty finding an alternative as she has a dairy sensitivity.

I have tried her with cows and goats products but she gets a cough, runny nappies and sometimes even throws it up. Tests were negative but clearly it doesn't agree with her.

I am reluctant to give her soya as it has had such a bad press due to its over processing and oestrogen content... Rice milk doesn't have enough calories or fat apparently...

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Detta, my dd is 14 months and allergic to dairy. The hospital advised me against goats milk because a high proportion of babies who can't take cows milk can't take that either. Soya milk is considered controversial because of the isoflavins. Rice milk doesn't have the right calories or nutrients. My baby is now on a dairy-free formula called Neocate, which is prescribed by my GP (this is a good idea because it costs a flipping fortune). It smells and tastes vile, but we are using a banana-flavoured version which dd initially rejected but now seems to love. She drinks it straight and we also stir it into cereal for breakfast.

I think to get it prescribed you would need to have your dd properly tested, so if you haven't already see your GP about a referral.

Thanks Hester. She has been to hospital and been allergy tested and we have been told that she doesn't have an allergy! Clearly in my opinion she does have a reaction of some sort.

I live in Dublin so the health care system is different to the UK, eg we pay to see our GP EVERY TIME!!! and we also pay the full amount for our prescriptions (unless you're an OAP or unemployed)...rant, rant, rant...

I was hoping maybe to get calcium and vitD into her some other way other than something that has been specially manufactured. We have started to grow our own veg and I buy organic when I can etc. and try to eat as little processed food as possible.

we are being prescribed pepti-junior which ds2 also does not like, i have to mix it in with his foods to hep him get his daily milk qota, im still bf but cannot keep up with the amount he needs and as im now back at work part time im finding it very stressfull.
anyway, all i was going to say was that hester you are the first person i have heard saying there is a banana flavour formula that i may just get him to try. i think i will see my gp about this. as yet i havent been refferred to a dietican but may now push to see one i think and see what they can come up with.
has anyone seen or tried that oat milk? i've seen it intescos but not sure if they can have it or not, any ideas?

Don't mind the highjack!

From what I can gather it needs to be 'full fat' and 'heavy'/have calories etc. I think that the oat milk doesn't meet all the requirements.

Worleygig, yes it's banana-vanilla flavour Neocate - still quite nasty but my dd is now glugging it down quite happily. I think the disadvantage is that it gets them used to a flavoured drink rather than plain milk, which I suppose may set them up for years of demanding Nesquik.. But if it's a choice betweeen that and having them malnourished then I'm prepared to live with the risk.

Detta, that's a drag about paying for prescriptions - Neocate is about thirty quid a box I think, so really expensive. Have you seen a dietician? Before we hit lucky with Neocate mine was recommending we give dd calcium-fortified rice milk with breakfast cereal, plus two calcium-fortified soya yogurts a day, plus other calcium-rich foods like bread etc. I don't know if this would be enough to replace either breastmilk or formula, though.
