Bottle for bf baby?

jabberwocky · 15/01/2007 07:59

I'm going back to work part-time next week and ds2 still won't take a bottle really. We've tried the Adiri one and also second nature.

ADh will be looking after him for the time being and won't consider cup feeding. Any suggestions?

My DS took to the mam ultivent ones really easily. They were sending out free samples on the mamuk site, but I don't know if they still are.

nappyaddict · 15/01/2007 08:44

have you tried boots orthodontic teats?

TheBlonde · 15/01/2007 08:52

mam teats worked for me too - they are v soft

shish · 15/01/2007 11:08

I tried everything, and now ds is taking MAM bottles aswell. I think all babies are different - a lot of parents have had more success with NUK or tommee tippee aswell. I went through them all!! I wish you lots of luck.. You'll get there ;)

jabberwocky · 15/01/2007 11:41

Thanks everyone! I will be going shopping today and hoping for the best

DD would only use T/Tippee closer to nature ones. Although we went through a few to get there

deaconblue · 15/01/2007 13:43

DS will only use those too. I got the slowest flow even though he was 6 months too as I figured he was used to having to suck hard with bf

jaz2 · 16/01/2007 19:15

I was about to post a question on a similar subject to jabberwockys but thought I'd make the most of the useful advice being given on this thread.
The MAM site has newborn and baby teats..what age do you people think a newborn becomes a baby? Also do you know where you can buy NUK bottles from?
Also, when I look at websites it doesn't seem to refer to the flow speed, nor on the T/Tippee closer to nature bottles I bought (DS has rejected Avent and T/Tippee!).
Does anyone know a shop one can buy MAM/NUK bottles?
Any suggestions welcome!

jabberwocky · 17/01/2007 08:50

I haven't found MAM anywhere but online so far. Bought a NUK and he was underwhelmed. The Platex drop-in may yet work - he seemed fairly interested. Still, I may order a MAM just to compare.

Also try the Boots wide neck teats. My lo didn't even notice the difference from breast to bottle as the teats are shaped and textured like a real nipple.

inanidealworld · 19/01/2007 16:32

DS2 swaps happily between breast and Dr Brown's bottles (they are excellent at reducing bubbles in the bottle and we've had no wind problems).

Thanks!

How old is your lo jb ? DS would not take a bottle but would take e full (6-8 oz) feed from an advent beaker from around 3 1/2m . Was realy good as never had to take the bottle away aged 1 or what ever

jabberwocky · 20/01/2007 09:34

Unfortunately, just 8 weeks. I know it's possible to cup feed at this age but dh is having none of that...

OP posts:
Rumpel · 20/01/2007 09:43

I buy NUK in Superdrug stores. The number 1 teat is more like breast slow flow, however, my LO got overtired sucking from this one when she was 8 weeks, so I use the number 2 medium flow teat. I still bf too and no problems. The NUK are supposed to be better for flatter nipples, apparently you are better to try and get teats that are like your own shape of nipple.

kiskidee · 20/01/2007 11:46

Boots and John Lewis sell MAM Ultivent, jaz. Dd eventually accepted these but it may have been b/c there was no other alternative going to nursery as i was too scared to cupfeed. i which i had dont that instead though.

i am at dh for you jabberwocky. I lived in KY once, a while ago. I hear that you are in TN.

jabberwocky · 21/01/2007 08:44

Yes, I am in TN! I've been surfing the Boots website thinking of strategies to get their brand in just in case

Where in KY did you live? It's a very pretty state.

OP posts:
kiskidee · 22/01/2007 02:09

i lived in Louisville. I went to Nashville once and also stayed at a state park nearby doing an outward bound adventure type thing.

if you are desperate to try mam ultivent, let me know. i don't mind doing a favour for someone in that part of the world as i always found ya'll very hospitable.

oh, while in KY i was made an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. honest, it exists, i am supposedly a goodwill ambassador for the state of KY.!

jabberwocky · 22/01/2007 08:29

We do pride ourselves on our Southern hospitality! Louisville is a very nice place, big city comforts but also still has charm IYKWIM.

Thank you for the offer. I'll keep you posted on things. I am working a half-day on Tuesday.

Dad has suprised us with a visit so if you'd like me to send him back with a suitcase full of Boots stuff (or anything else)just shout

jabberwocky · 23/01/2007 06:36

Oh wow! How great for you!!

I'm off to work in about 8 hours. We'll see how it goes... and let you know

The Playtex system (with disposable liners) worked for me - and you should find it's a lot easier to get hold of in the US than the UK!

jabberwocky · 23/01/2007 07:01

That's the only one that seems hopeful atm. He took a bit from it only somewhat grudgingly as opposed to outright refusal.

KTeePee · 23/01/2007 07:08

Keep trying (and get your dh to give the bottle if possible) - it will take a while for your ds to get used to it. Be prepared for him to want to feed before you even get your coat off when you come home!
