2.5 Year refusing food

Every mealtime except breakfast (always weetabix) DS refuses & asks for crisps or chocolate.

Every night this week I've thrown his dinner in the bin.

I'm so pissed off quite frankly & don't know what to do.

Any advise would be very welcomed.

What do you do when he refuses? Do you offer an alternative like the crisps?

lonerboner · 01/05/2016 12:27

No never!!!

I just take him out of his high chair calmly & say no dinner, no crisps.

If you eat your dinner, just a few mouthfuls you can have crisps.

My DD has just turned three and has hardly ever seen or eaten crisps and chocolate so wouldn't dream of asking for them for dinner because her mummy is mean when it comes to treats.

I have no idea what to do to claw the situation back from where you're at with a good refuser. Maybe get him to help make dinner. Chopping, stirring etc.

PannaDoll · 01/05/2016 12:36

Oh. Just read your last sentence. I'd have never started the dinner/dessert bargain off. Just go cold turkey on the crisps in my opinion.

StealthPolarBear · 01/05/2016 12:37

Have you had your health visitor check?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 01/05/2016 12:42

Ok so no substitutes, that's good. Could you give us some idea of what snacks he has and drinks in the day including milk? Is he well too? No back teeth coming through?

Wolpertinger · 01/05/2016 13:01

Is he growing and is he eating othr stuff in the day? Then don't panic. He is eating enough and isn't hungry.

Take crisps and chocolate out of the equation though - the bargaining is turning it into battle of wills and cementing that crisps and chocolate are the best foods ever.

lonerboner · 01/05/2016 13:05

What does the HV check?

He is healthy, wet/dirty nappies etc ..

I've gone total cold turkey on crisps etc& amazingly it worked yesterday & I will keep it up.

He always eats breakfast, has a lunch at childminder etc ....

Maybe he just decided to play me up this week!?! ConfusedConfusedConfused

Could well be Smile

Sounds like he's testing you to see what happens. If he keeps it up will mummy cave and give me crisps??
Stay strong, no crisps, no alternatives. See how it goes.
