Dh mad idea about bottles – dangerous?

My dh is always coming up with 'bright' ideas. Now he's insisting that it is OK to take a bottle out of the steriliser, put the teat and neck and cap on, and then keep it overnight until you feel like adding water and powder. I think this is rubbish and would mean the bottle is not sterile. He spouted something about creating a vaccuum (sp?).
I think he's talking out of his behind and is just trying to avoid having to run the steriliser again when he's forgotten to boil and cool enough water. Is ds (10 months) in any danger if dh gets his way? So far I've stopped dh but he keeps trying this and I know the minute I'm out for the evening he is going to do this as he thinks I'm making a fuss about nothing.

I thought that milk or water in a bottle was not a problem for teeth, so long as toddlers are not left overnight with a bottle of milk in the cot, or for a very long period. Juice/squashes are where you get teeth problems. DD1 had bottles until at least age 2.

I was fastidious about ds's bottles and sterilised for about 15 mths, but always kept them done up after sterilisation for days even!!

DD only had 1 bottle a day from about 6 weeks (breastfed) And I only sterilised for about 1 month - just used dishwasher after that! How lazy am I??

Funnily enough when Ds is ill he is always sick, but dd only had her 1st stomach upset on Wed (now 20 months), and I think that was food poioning from nursery.

There's no reason to get them off the bottle at age 1. It's all personal preference. My two both stopped having bottles at around 18 months. Two reasons: They were confident with (and soothed by) sippy cups at that point, and personally I don't like the look of older kids with bottles.

Rebi - I do the same since I was introduced to the idea of mixing only just before a feed.
Eddm - I reckon you are making life harder than necessary for yourself and your DH - save time and do it the easier way. For a start - how are you storing the boiled water when cooling down? surely storing it in the bottle itself, knowing it is clean and sterilised, is as safe as anywhere? Anyway, this is my routine and it means ten mins work at night and then no hassle all day:

Last thing at night, after final bedtime feed I get all the days empty bottles ( previously rinsed and washed out ofter use) and pop them in the microwave steriliser for 5 mins, 4 at a time. While the microwave is going I boil a kettle full of fresh water. When the microwave beeps, taken the bottles out and fill immediately with the boiled water and screw lids on tight. I then fill up two of those great little Avent powder tubs with three separate compartments and that is all it takes. Ten mins at night and no fridges, no worry about reheating, storing water or milk just mix and go when needed. Easy peasy.

eddm - my daughter still had a bottle before bedtime when she was 3 (gasps from mumsnet!) She never had a dummy so I suppose it was her substitute. I remember my HV telling me she (the baby) should be drinking from a cup at 4 months. So I tried it, was very pleased with myself that she gulped it down in about 10 seconds...then she threw it all up again.

Erk - just caught up with this and I hate to say this, Eddm, but....I think he's right.

And I've started fishing the expressing machine out of the dishwasher and not sterilising it from time to time. Second child, see
