Opinions vary widely, Capalune.
Most literature I've read recommends sterilising up to 1 year.
Many people feel that sterilising is not necessary at all, especially if you use a dishwasher.
I personally sterilise dd's drinking cup and any tubs I use to freeze/store her food.
I'm not as worried about her bowls/spoons being sterile, as long as they're clean.

well, by the time they're rolling around the floor and chewing everything in sight there's really not much point, is there?

Somewhere is a thread from RTKangaMummy including advice she was given by her consultant, and an email from the hospital microbiologist, saying that hot soapy water and air drying is fine even for her newborn who was going home from SCBU...

I eventually got out of the habit a about 8 month but was still paranoid about it for a few weeks after. I just wash them now and leave them on the draining board til i need them then just rinse them a bit with boiling water. ds is 10 month now

And i only ever sterilised bottles and dummies, never dishes and spoons.

CantWaitForTheSnow · 26/12/2006 19:17

Never have done . Bottles used to get a once weekly 5 minute boil. They always went in the dishwasher though. Now at 8 months we don't have a dishwasher, so I just wash them normally and rinse with boiling water

Look at this thread - "IMHO and the opinion of microbiologists there is no need to sterilize"

thread here

MrsBadger · 26/12/2006 19:21

capalune · 27/12/2006 18:42
