DS is 5.5months and is ebf. He is reaady to start trying fod and I am wondering; as i plan to carry on bf, when my period will return?

I know no one can tell me but just wonderingvwhat others experienced were.

I need to be down to morning and evening feeds by 9 months as wil be working 3 days a week.

I ovulated the instant DS1 lips touched food, at 5,5mo, and got my periods 14 days after that.

I also started working 3 days a week by his 9mo anniversary but was not down to morning and evening, he would just wait for me (have cheese or yogurt during the day) and have his feeds when I was there (plus regular feeds when I was not working).

Badumchhhhh · 10/01/2016 08:32

About 12 months with all of mine. Which was when I went back to work so dropped to 2 then 1 feed a day, so maybe linked to that. I had almost forgotten about them, so it was disappointing each time :)

OffRoader · 10/01/2016 08:35

DS is 14 months and my periods returned last month.
We just stopped breastfeeding a week ago he self-weaned.

I wouldn't worry about 'getting his feeds down'. When you are there he will feed and when you're not, he won't! They adjust very quickly Smile

Dd1- 6 months pp
Dd2- had spotting at just before 3 months but nothing since (4 months) and I'm feeding both of them

There's no rhyme or reason. I know some people who don't get their period back til after they stop bf, some when they were weaning and some when the baby was still really wee.

I went back ft when dd1 was 8 months old. She just fed lots in the evening.

MeAndTheMajor · 10/01/2016 08:36

About 12 months with both of mine. I was only feeding morning and bedtime by that point.

StitchesInTime · 10/01/2016 08:38

About 15 months. I went back to work at about 12 months.

toptomatoes · 10/01/2016 08:39

11 months with DS1 - we stopped at 10.5 months

5 months with DS2- we stopped at 4.5 months

14 months with DD - we kept going til 21 months but only morning and night feeds by 14 m.

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 10/01/2016 08:40

At about 4 months with both dc2 and dc3 which seemed grossly unfair given both were ebf drinking machines until 6 months.

LaceyLee · 10/01/2016 08:40

Exactly 12 months. Still bf-ing at nearly 13 months.

maamalady · 10/01/2016 08:40

EBF for six months, BF alongside solid food until twelve months. Period returned at ten months, got pregnant again at twelve months (despite having only one fallopian tube and DD taking several years to conceive).

From ten months or so BF really dropped off, DD got steadily less interested, which made stopping very easy.

mrsmugoo · 10/01/2016 08:46

Mine came back at 8 months when I returned to work and was going from 8-6 in the day with no feeds. He had already dropped night feeds so I was just doing one early morning and one bedtime feed. That seemed to trigger my cycle again.

EeekEeekEeekEeek · 10/01/2016 09:37

About 6 months, which was 2-3 weeks after we started solids and DD dropped her last night feed. I think it varies a lot depending on your hormone levels. I wasn't expecting it to turn up quite so quickly!

Quickchangeup · 10/01/2016 09:46

Mine returned 5 weeks after birth. I wasn't impressed.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/01/2016 09:48

DD2 fed every two hours for nearly the first 6 months. My period came back at 3 1/2 months. I might have cried. (I breastfed her for 14 months.)

BlacknWhitePanda · 10/01/2016 10:00

I got them back 11months, i was gutted when they came back.

Pleasemrstweedie · 10/01/2016 10:02

Bang on four weeks both times, which was really not what I had been lead to expect.

yetanotherdeskmove · 10/01/2016 10:04

About 11m both times.

TrashPanda · 10/01/2016 10:06

DS is 9mo and still haven't had one, not on any contraception either. Has been on solids since 6 months and we have moved to no bfing during the day as back to work.

ShowOfHands · 10/01/2016 10:07

11 weeks with dd
11 months with ds

And dd fed hourly, ds was a much more infrequent feeder and had long gaps overnight.

AnotherTimeMaybe · 10/01/2016 10:07

Ds2 is 15mo and I still don't have periods although I work as well (he does feed quite a bit in the night and at weekends though)
Ds1 fed till 23 mo and I got my period when he was 17mo
I don't miss it at all!!

HappyJustToBe · 10/01/2016 10:09

Period returned at 13mo when DD realised food was a good thing. Was still BF.

RatOnnaStick · 10/01/2016 10:11

14 months and 9 months, I was feeding long after with both of them.

YokoUhOh · 10/01/2016 10:11

Not until DS was 30 months! And I didn't conceive until the month after I'd completely given up BFing, a couple of months later.

kittyvet · 10/01/2016 10:19

Went back to work 9mths but still feeding at lunch time. Periods back at 14mths, one if the last of the people I know.

PeekABooPinky101 · 10/01/2016 10:24

6 weeks after dd was born. But then again I now have the mirena coil and still have periods. So, clearly I'm unstoppable!
