Woman BFeeding Indiscreetly in Tesco Cafe

I saw a woman breastfeeding indiscreetly in Tesco's cafe today and do you know what?? You still couldn't see anything more than you'd see on someone wearing a lowcut frock. I honestly don't know why people get het up about bfing in public.

Not breastfed in Harvey Nicks but I have in Waitrose, in church, on a bench in the high street, at a railway station, on a train, anywhere, everywhere and oh yes twice at job interviews. The second time I was being interviewed by 2 men in suits and the baby was coming up for a year old. I got the job.

Also I took ds to a feed-in at Tesco one year during Breastfeeding Awareness Week. Two young men were reading page 3 of The Sun. I said to them "Oh, you won't mind if I get mine out then!" to which they replied in the affirmative and laughed. In the event, ds didn't want to feed as he was too busy cruising the furniture, so my boobs never had their outing on that occasion.

As I have said on another thread, I have never ever been given a hard time for bf in public.

I've noticed that the posher the establishment the fewer the snotty looks. St James's Park cafe/restaurant is great. Mums with boobs out everywhere Very reassuring for our novice NCT antenatal class!

bf in fortum and mason, and also the united nations building in geneva, hows that?

also on pavement where hobos hang out, but hey, I got a quid and a cornish pasty out of it.

Grr - I was about to wade in guns blazing - and I haven't done that so far on MN in my 10 months of being a member, but my first fight will be put off for another day!

great waiter btw Roisin!

Have Bf standing up in Waitrose mid-shop, perched on a footstool in TK maxx and sitting on the edge of a display bath in Homebase. Have also bf in most of the cafes in town. No shame, me. DD is 8 months and I am so past caring what anyone thinks. Have had very little comment (except one old lady who came up and congratulated me!) You can't see anything anyway - except maybe some unattractive jellybelly if you catch me from the side.

i think any woman ready to whip them out to feed her child should be commended. I wanted to breastfeed both of my ds' but was unable to both times and gutted. three cheers to all you bf mums.

flutturkey · 17/12/2006 21:13

Well I walked up to a Mum bfing on a bench in the middle of the shopping centre who looked a tad uncomfortable due to the stares she was getting and said how beautiful they were at that age, smiled and walked on. She positivley burst with happiness.

I bfed in a very busy restaurant when DD was about three weeks old, it was our first outing since my section (other than to families houses) and the food took ages to arrive, and so I think I fed her twice between three courses.
And I bfed in public again, sat on a park bench, next to the street, glaring at anybody who dared do anything but smile.
I'm not overly confident in whipping them out to feed in public, and dd seemed to time her feeds well around my shopping trips but when you gotta feed, you gotta feed!!

moondog · 17/12/2006 21:18

Bugger

I am going to force 21/2 year old ds to start again in the hope of picking fights I think.....

funnypeculiar · 17/12/2006 21:23

I've always been so disappointed that the only comments I've ever had have been 'oh, do carry on' (friend's charming 50something brother in law, clearly concerned that Ishouldn't feel bothered by his presence - not in creepy way, you understand, anything but) and 'are you still breastfeeding? how lovely!' when DD2 was about 15 months.

Pah.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/12/2006 21:34

I think I beat you all, because, I fed my 19 month old DS in a Catholic Church - right near the altar and everything - last weekend

DeepPannCrispandEven · 17/12/2006 23:35

VVQV - I am told it has been noted in the Big Book.

BingCrosby · 17/12/2006 23:55

Firstly - I am concerned you think you have been "told".

And secondly, I dont "believe" there is a big book - so remain resolutely unconcerned

DeepPannCrispandEven · 18/12/2006 00:00

Bc..there is an entire chapter devoted to just you! You have been busy!!!

BingCrosby · 18/12/2006 00:03

Well, as much as I love devotion.....

I feel its safe to say - you are utterly deluded.

I blardy love ya though

DeepPannCrispandEven · 18/12/2006 00:06

And I lovvvvveeee you toooooo.....hence my concern.

BingCrosby · 18/12/2006 00:15

I'm not entirely sure what you are concerned about...that I may go to hell?

kiskidee · 18/12/2006 04:21

Bf at the New Angel, Dartmouth. The restaurant owned by John Race-Burton. DD bf 2 or 3 times during the 2 hrs there.

My biggest confidence boost to bf in public came from a 96 yr old friend in Dartmouth who had the most charming sense of humour and sharp mind. When she asked me how i feed ds, said well done and keep doing it. i think she was also bemoaning the fact that her one great grand child from her only grand child wasn't bf and of her grandson's wife said 'i don't think she was cuddled enough as a baby.' her nice way of saying the woman was a cold fish.

corrina28 · 18/12/2006 07:11

moondog i read your post as 21 yo instead of 2 1/2 (bitty) LMFAO

Gemmitygem · 18/12/2006 08:26

I'm so tempted while out with DS to order a tea and then squirt milk into the cup instead of using their milk. Now THAT would really be indiscreet!

3andnomorethechrimbobimbo · 18/12/2006 23:33

Hm...and there was me thinking that breastfeeding was a sign of upper class....oh dear, oh dear, how terribly wrong I had it all...rofl

BlessThisMess · 19/12/2006 11:07

I b/fed in the Sistine Chapel - I think this means I win all the points in the world!
