Bottle to Cup :-/

My dd is 14.5 months. We've struggled since day 1 to get enough milk into her but she's now settled into having a full 9oz bottle in the morning and between 0 and 4oz at bedtime which is great. She has plenty of milky foods and cheese/yogurt etc....
My concern is that I can't get rid of the damn bottle. She won't entertain drinking milk from a cup so I just keep going with the bottle for an easy life. She doesn't seem to use the bottle as a comforter - she just drinks it and then that's it. (she won't do the bottle herself though - only in my arms with me giving it to her.)
What should I do? Keep going as I am or just forget the milk drinking. I'm anxious that she shouldn't be having a bottle now but is it really doing any harm?
What do you all think?

She needs the milk so if it aint broke why fix it?
Give her the bottle, its getting the milk down her so keep giving it to her and try not to worry about it.
My ds is 3 and still has a bottle, only for milk and as its getting his pint a day into him, i am not in the least bit worried.
My HV is shocked and agast that a 3 year old still has a bottle.....i just smile at her....but carry on.
He cleans his teeth well every day and they are gorgeous and white and shiney...because of the milk probably!

Well my dd is 17 months and today I did it. I stopped giving her her bottle at bedtime. I just gave her her milk in a cup and after a major tantrum she took the cup and when she realised there was milk in it she drank it greedily. She then got lots of extra cuddles and she went off to bed happily. Let's hope it lasts.

I think I was lucky and had an easy time, so perhaps you shouldn't try this before bedtime but in the morning when she is well rested and really hungry for her bottle.

Good Luck !

Donbean I have known plenty of children still on the bottle much older than 3. dd1's childminder told me that she herself still had the occasional bottle at 6. She was a great childminder! Some hvs are so prescriptive.

Bobsi your dd is still a baby. She will grow up soon enough. The only sure way to have no trouble getting rid of bottle (or dummy for that matter)by the time of your choosing is not to use one in the first place. Of course she wants to have her milk in your arms. Sensible baby.

Have you tried a Dr Browns cup? I remember my friend having the same problem and she succeeded with this because it has a nice soft rubbery top so is more like a bottle than the others.

Mhm after the good start today dd was a wee bit suspect about the cup and didn't drink her milk in the morning. I will see how much milk she drinks during the day.

I think, as with most aspects of mothering, trust your own instinct. If you think dd is ready to give up the bottles then do it, if you have doubts then continue them.

Thanks for all the lovely replies :-) I think I'll leave it at the moment. I enjoy giving her bottle to her. It's five minutes of calm with my beautiful girl in my arms - I don't know about anyone else but cuddles are becoming quite rare as she's on the go and wriggling all the time!!!
It's good to get other opinions - it makes me feel human and puts my mind at ease. I'm such a worrier!!
I think I'll have a look for the Dr Brown cups after Christmas 'weepootleflump' (by the way I love your name - our pet name for dd is posie flump!!)
Happy Christmas to everyone - hope you all have a relaxing time
