How long does the protection for the lo's actually work?
I have heard that the antibodies only work up to 6 months or as long as the baby is not getting ANYTHING other than breastmilk. Does anyone know whether this is true or how long the protection actually works?
I had a slight cold last week and I am still bfeeding 8m old DD at night. She had a blocked nose (but also maybe due to teething). Not sure whether breastmilk is still helping her to fight possible infections?

Has anyone some more inside into this subject?
Many thanks!

Cocolina, there are always antibodies in breastmilk, and their production is dynamic ie they are produced when you produce them. The breastmilk you give your baby now has the antibodies in it you and she need now. Of course it will be helping her to fight infection. The immune system is not fully developed in children for some years. This is probably in line with the natural age for total weaning from the breast which is probably middle childhood (5-7 years or so).

Anyone who tells you that antibodies only work until 6 months does not understand about breastfeeding. Why would they cease to work!! ???
