avent niplette during pregnancy to help with inverted nipples? or any advice on breastfeeding with inverted nipples?

Haven't used the niplette but I use nipple shields because I have "flat nipples" and dd can't latch on without them. I was told that they would reduce my milk supply because of lack of stimulation but dd was exclusively bf until 6 weeks and then we intoduced 1 bottle of formula. I have never had a problem and she is still bf at 5 months.

I also had flatish nipples and had to use nipple shields. I used them till he was 4.5months old with no detriment to us and he decided himself he was ready to go without and then we continued to breastfeed until this week - DS 16mo.

I had a midwife come to see me in hospital with her own remedy which consisted of cutting the end of a largish plastic syringe and then using it ont he nipple to get it extended. It worked, but my problem was my nipples were already pretty damaged from trying by then, but I think if I had gotten to it earlier it would have been great. Of course it must be sterilised.

My Nanna had one inverted nipple and one normal and even back in her day she used nipple shields (though I imagine not v hitech), to breastfeed her 5 children. Good Luck!

I have flatish nipples too. I had a row actually with a bfc because she went off on one about nipple shields being bad..you'd have thought they were evil the way she went on!
Without nipple shields my ds would be unable to bf. He just wouldnt latch on. Now at 6 1/2 months he latches on quite happily without and has done since 4 1/2 months.
On words of advice.. try everything that might work. ( Nipple shields worked for me)

look here!

you put them in your bra, and they work buy exerting pressure around the nipple thus pushing it out.

i thought thse shells were for collecting breast milk rasther than "correcting" flat ot inverted nipples. That'd be the avent niplette, wouldn't it??

I used nipple shells when DD was a newborn. They're not supposed to be used for collecting milk (although you can, if you wash them immediately before putting them on and take them off immediately after nursing, and you don't leak more than an ounce or so). You put them on for a while before you nurse, and they make the nipple stick out. You take them off before you nurse. They also keep things from touching your nipples, which is great when your nipples are all chewed up. On the other hand, they will show under clothes, they're not incredibly comfortable, and they will make you leak like a fountain! The stupid little foam bits they provide are nowhere near sufficient to keep the nipple shield from filling up and spilling while you're asleep. Somebody suggested shoving a tampon in there, but I stopped using them around that time because DD learned to latch on even when I hadn't used the shield first.

The suction from an expressing pump worked well for me. To start with I had to use it to bring it out each time (I'd found the niplette useless) and then it got keener on staying out, so I was able to roll it out with fingers. 5 1/2 months later it seems to have learned who's boss
