How do I increase supply on one side only?

DD3 is 10 days old and is ebf. No problems feeding from my RHS - can hear the glugging and given the number of wet/dirty nappies, I know she is getting a lot.

However on my LHS I have an inverted nipple and although I try and latch her on at every feed, it doesn't appear that there is much in there / she isn't contented and will still need to go on the RHS afterwards. I have been trying to express as well from this side as the MW said that would increase supply there, though have never got more than 5ml out per session. There is no glugging noise when she is on there, only an occasional swallow every 5-6 sucks which is why I think that there isn't much supply in there. I'm just getting disheartened as we are now 10 days in, supply on LHS is still pretty non-existent and my RHS is getting sore as she feeds from there every time.

I should point out that bf with DD1 was a disaster and we ended up ff but with DD2 it worked really well (so I know that I can feed from the LHS in spite of the inverted nipple) and I would really like it to work out this time.

Any tips for how I can bring the LHS up to the same level of supply as the RHS and how long this would normally take?

Carikube, occasionally, mothers end up feeding on one side only - this is fine, and it's the equivalent of what twin mums do. Most women's bodies can manage to build up a supply for one baby on one breast. So if you end up mainly or even solely feeding one sided, it's not a big deal.

You should not be sore on the right hand side - usual treatments plus careful checking of attachment should help.

What you are doing is fine - expressing and continuing to try direct.

What do you think? Do you feel you must have equal supply?

Feed feed feed! The more she sucks on that side the more milk she'll bring in. Just put her on that boob at every opportunity, whether she's hungry or not even. I reckon a week or two would do it.

Thanks for the advice. tiktok I don't feel like I must have equal supply but due to previous experience from when it all went wrong with DD1, I worry a bit about being too dependent on one side in case it happens again. But as she seems to be thriving it's obviously not causing any problems for her so I should probably relax and live with it. I'm sore because the initial.latch is always excruciating but then the pain goes after a couple of seconds. When she starts to chomp I do lift her off and start again and I am generous with the Lansinoh so hopefully it will all settle down. I am seeing the MW tomorrow so will ask her to check the latch at the same time.
Will continue to offer LHS and see how we get on.

Hi Carikube, I had a similar experience. My son is 10 weeks old now and feeding well and equally from both sides. As he got bigger and stronger he has been able to draw the nipple out more which I think has made it easier to feed. Initially I did as you are doing, just keep on with the expressing and continue to offer the LHS at every opportunity. My baby takes both sides happily now, although I often feel that one side still has a slightly larger supply. I hope things go well for you too :)
