Hi,

Just had a horrible couple of hours and feeling quite traumatised. dd woke as usual for her feed, was rooting for my breast and doing her 'hungry' grizzle. But I absolutely couldn't latch her on to either (just nicely full) side. We'de get as far as her closing around my nipple and then she'd suddenly turn her head to the side. Lifting her away from the breast led to proper crying which developed into screaming that i would normally say was hunger that had not, for some reason like being stuck in the car, been responded to for a few minutes.

We couldn't calm dd by any of the usual means and I began to worry she was ill. Eventually after 2-2.5 hours she latched on, fed well, snoozed briefly and did a big (normal, yellow)poo as she usually would. She now seems ok if a little more tired than normal for this time of day.

It was really horrible feeling like I understood what she was asking for but being unable to help her. I'm scared it will happen again. Her reluctance to latch made me wonder if she could possible be teething, especially as one of the other babies in my postnatal group has just got his first one. But she's only 14 weeks which seems rather early.

She has however been drooling a lot and chewing on her hands-but I thought this was just baby behaviour.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

PS. I should add that we made sure she was properly winded, dry, the right temp etc

link to Kellymom website, hopefully there is some advice on there for you
It is very frustrating when they are obvioulsy hungry but aren't nursing!
Teething can occur can occur really early, also, a lot of Baby's teeth for a fair bit (i.e. the teeth working their way up) without a tooth actually poking through for a long while, if you know what I mean!
I assume you have checked your lil ones mouth for thrush? White spots on the inside of the cheeks, that don't easily rub off) !
Saying that, to me it does sound like teeting!

Thankyou...

She's been doing it on and off but I am getting the knack -touch wood- of helping her on even when she seems sore-gummed.

Poor LO!
