Diarrhoea from second stage milk?

Hi there, I recently started giving my 23 week old DD second stage formula (Aptamil Extra) and have noticed that she is doing a lot more dirty nappies (about 8-10 per day varying in consistency). I was told that the First and Second formulas have a different taste and it is a good idea to mix the formulas until baby gets used to it.

DD gets 8oz milk per feed (now giving 5 oz of extra, 3oz of first). I spoke to my pharmacist this morning and he suggested not increasing the extra scoops and to keep an eye on things to make sure they don't get any worse - and to keep giving her water.

Pharmacist also suggested giving her a little bit of baby rice to 'thicken things up'. (I haven't started DD on solids yet).

Should I decrease the extra scoops? I will be weaning DD onto solids in the next few weeks anyway so should I just start on solids now?

Why change formulas now? 2nd stage formula will alter bowel movements as it is a casein based feed (more difficult to digest) wheras first stage milk is whey based.
I would stick to one type of milk TBH. Pharmacists are not qualified to advise on infant feeding - I certainly would not add rice. I would wait till 26 weeks to start weaning if you can - you are ss close. Well done you.

You don't have to give her the second stage formula. I'd suggest keeping her on the first stage one.

It could easily be that that particular formula does not agree with your DD. eg. DS1 would throw up violently with Cow and Gate in the purple box (stage 3?) but not with C&G in the gold box (2).

Pharmacist is talkign b*llox.

Hi, DD started going 3 hrs between feeds rather than 4 hrs which is why I moved onto the second stage (at HV's suggestion).

I am very perturbed that a pharmacist thinks they are qualified to give clinical guidance on infant feeding - WTF?????

Is this a normal thing?

This pharmacist clearly doesn't know he doesn't know.....
