Formula feeding

I bf and dh has been giving dd a bottle of ebm at night. I've not been able to express today, so we are going to make up a bottle of formula instead (I'm desperate for sleep as I'm unwell atm).

I've obviously read the instructions on the tin about how to make it up, but I'm just wondering about the best way around it all. I was going to make it up now and then put it in the fridge. Normally dh takes the ebm out of the fridge for about 2 hours to go to room temperature ready for the 11pm/12 am feed. Can we still do this with the formula bottle, or would he need to take it out of the fridge when needed, and heat it up?

Sorry if this is a really stupid question!

I would make it up closer to the time it is going to be given as ideally they should be made up when a feed is due. He could make it up close to when the feed is due and then cool it under a cold tap. Once prepared it is ok at room temperature for 2 hours and then should be discarded.

You're not really supposed to make up formula in advance. Could you buy some of the pre-made bottles, rather than using the powder? All your husband would then need to do is pour the formula into a bottle and feed (most babies take at room temperature, mine won't though so it may need to be warmed slightly).

Just read again and your DD takes the expressed EBM at room temp, so I don't think she'll have any problem taking the formula at room temp. In which case you just pour the instant (ready to feed) formula straight into the bottle and feed. No faffing around with adding the powder to boiling water and then cooling under a cold tap at the time of the feed (this is the recommended way for powder formula).

The instant formula is more expensive, but if you're only doing one feed a day it's worth it to save the faff. It's also great if you want to feed her formula when you're out and about.
