To sleep over 6 hours? He was on breast non-stop all day yesterday, and since finally dropped of around midnight, is sleeping. I got him up after 6 hours sleep, fed a bit - he didn't wake up really, and now continues sleeping. I am somewhat worried, as he has a history of low blood sugar after birth and needed formula supplements, although he was on breast only for the last week. He is gaining weight well, is on 50 centile, but haven't done more than 3 hours sleep stretches until now. Just don't know, whether at 3 weeks I need to be waking him up for feeds if he sleeps long time?

This is not official advice, but mine did the same. He got grumpy when I tried to wake him at 3am to feed and wasn't interested. After 2 weeks I gave up and he slept from midnight to 6. He has continued to grow well and now at 8 weeks he sleeps for 9 hours at night and continues to breastfeed well in the day. So it's not just yours. (Mine also had a few days of NICU for infection with some hypoglycaemia and had some formula top ups at that time, but none since).

You are lucky, Wildfire! I hope it is a sign that my boy will be a good sleeper too! My older DS didn't sleep that long until he was probably a year old, so that's new for me.

Hi. My DD slept a lot as a baby. She slept through the night at 18 days old. I did dream feed though which would keep her milkdrunk asleep and contented. When he is awake is he doing things as per the norm, does he react to you. If he is reacting I would say that he's probably just a sleepy baby. Xx hv are always on the end of the phone too xxx

Oh, I so hope it was a sign that he'll be a good sleeper! After DS1, my hopes are limited though. I have no concerns about him, just because of his history of low blood sugar on day 1 after birth, was a bit concerned (also my DS1 had problems with blood sugar after birth and had to go to NICU, so I am a bit sensitive about this). Although I was told by the doctor that the way blood sugar is maintained in 2 days old and 2 weeks old is quite different, and I shouldn't worry about it now... He was feeding nicely during the day, so fingers crossed for another quiet night - would be great to catch up on sleep!

Chances are he's just catching up after marathon feeding sesh but I'd give the gp a ring just to make sure if the sleepiness continues. They might want to check him over, especially given his history.
