Feeds through the night

After persevering with trying to breast feed for over a month and continuous expressing, I made the decision a few days ago to bottle feed formula My 5 1/2 week old.

Baby is a good eater and only lost 1%ol of birth weight when I was first bf.
His nighttime feeds are something like this:

7.30-5oz
20.30-5 oz
1.15-5oz
3.15-3oz
5.30-5oz
By the time he's gone back to sleep it can take anything from 30mins to an hour to get him back.

I always put 5oz in his bottle but he seems to have a lot over night which isn't filling him otherwise why would he wake so much? I am really struggling with the broken sleep!!

Any ideas or suggestions please?

Thanks!

TBH I would just feed on demand, just like you would if bf.

I switched to ff when DD was 4 weeks old and let her lead me as to what she wanted. It didn't take long at all for a routine to emerge and she was only waking once in the night.
A bit further down the line I introduced a dream feed at around 11-12pm. First try at 3 months failed but she took to it straightaway at 4 months. That helped her to go through to 6am ish without a wake up.
But at this early stage, just let him do his thing. Flowers for you, it's a very tiring stage.

Oh yes and one other thing - if he drains the 5oz, think about upping feeds to 6oz. Should always have bit left over, that way you know he's had enough.

Congrats on your baby boy!
I'd say the 5 hr stretch he is doing is great for such a new baby. I never bottle fed, so can't comment on amounts, but would suggest either feeding him (dream feed) on your way to bed, or going to bed as soon as the 8.30 feed is done to sleep during his longest stretch.
Do you have a partner? If he got up at 5.30, and did that feed and resettle, you can sleep from the 3am feed til either baby wakes again, or partner goes to work, whichever is later (obviously this assumes there is another adult, and they work a 9-5 day!)

That sounds like quite a lot to be having overnight. Is he definitely hungry when he wakes? You could try settling him at 3.15 or 5.30 rather than feeding straight away to see if he will stretch the time between feeds a bit? I give my DD a dummy if she wakes less than 2 hours after her last feed and it usually settles her for another hour.
