Seven week old going mental on the boob. What to do?

I have an ebf 7 week old. Been bfing with no probs. The last few days she has at times been fussy on the boob. Tonight she is crazy. She is latching but within seconds is thrashing about and screaming. It seems like she is desperate for boob but can't tolerate being on there. I tried to pump to see if u could feed her by bottle but only 1 oz came out normally get around 3.
I know this can be down to fast let down or slow let down. HoW do I tell? Does the littLe amount on pumping suggest a problem with supply? It is a bit distressing to see her like this. It is as if her main source of comfort has become a source of pain.

I'll give you my experience.

Did did the same, and it was either overtired or wind. In the end I gave her a dummy and some cuddles and she'd go to sleep and wake a few hours later and feed comfortably.

I'll bet it's not your supply (although it might be- my period came back at 6 weeks and that made de fussy),

Both my DC did this too, particularly when they were over-tired and over-stimulated. If they just wouldn't settle I used to take them off and hold them to my shoulder, rub their backs and walk around until they dozed off. They'd put up a fight but when they woke up again after that they were much better.

Don't worry about the expressing, it's not indicative of how much milk is available to the baby.

X-post with Justin :)

I'm glad you did Thomas. As I was typing I was hoping I wasn't talking rubbish!

Thanks all. She has nodded off now. Hoping she will feed more calmly when she wakes. When she has done this before it was a few mins into a feed and seemed to be due to having a big Burp lurking high up. She would settle after a winding. This seems different. She goes mental immediately. I think it is going to be a looooooonnnnggg night.

It might be reflux. Or have you eaten anything unusual and strong tasting?

Belleende · 20/08/2015 09:49

Last update. I think what hdppened was my milk got to max supply that day and she struggled with the force of the flow. This coincided with her usual 6pm fussy period which led to total meltdown. expressing abit then feeding uphill got her through. Now she seems to have adjusted to the flow. We have also had to go up a teat size. Back to normal now but with feeds taking less time.

Have a look at this link and see if it rings any bells. It did for me (month old baby fighting at the breast and windy with explosive poops. www.normalfed.com/continuing/gulping/

If it does seem like a possible oversupply issue, the milkshake seems to be the answer.
