Hello, I have thrush for the 2ns time. My baby is 7 weeks old today and pretty much since she's been born and I have been breastfeeding, we've had thrush. I've got advice from a friend who has it and from La leche too. I just want to ask how you ghave got rid of thrush, have you used Fluconzale? What was your dosage? Did you baby have it too? the dosage i have is 400ml first then 200ml a day, fo 2 weeks and i asked the doctor for an extra week too just in case. Do you think this will get rid of it? Baby has nyastin drops and canesten for her bum. My friends baby is having 2ml of fluconzale a day. I was too scared for this... Please help me.

hi
I've had thrush too and the fluconazole is very effective. my DS had the nystatin and canestan. you can also rub the canestan into your nipples morning and night. you and baby have to be treated at the same time or you will keep re-infecting each other.
hope you get better soon!

My doctor refused point blank to prescribe fluconazole. He discussed it with loads of colleagues, a gynaecologist and a breastfeeding specialist at the hospital, all of whom said there was no concrete evidence that thrush is the cause of any bf problems . The thinking is, apparently, that thrush is so prevalent that most bf women have probably got it on their nipples but that is not proof that it causes the problems attributed to it. But he did agree to prescribe Daktarin cream for me and this does seem to have worked, thank God!

Thanks for your replies everyone. I took the loading dose of 400mg this arvo and will be taking 200mg a day for the next 2 weeks. I want to kill it raaaaa. having to be careful with washing hands/washing clothes/towels in vinegar/gonna try and iron everything, need to get it away. I think the drops are already working for my baby she seems to be feeding better, she's not puling off and screaming anymore anyway... twinklemegan i think my doctor has the same thinking, its a woman who hasn't had children and whenever i've been to see her in the past she looks everything up on the internet and gives prescriptions out left right and centre, i saw her colleague today and he just took my word for it....! I'm not taking the decision lightly to have fluconzale, i have to get rid of this thrush otherwise i may not be able to continue bfing....

Squirrel, I sympathise and really hope it works for you. I think if I did have thrush I had it quite mildly so the Daktarin was enough for me in the end. But I do know how horrendously painful bf can be - I had no end of problems before the thrush and nearly gave up myself. Best of luck!

I took fluconzale combined with adding bio yoghurts and acidophilus to my diet. When the thrush recurred I found some homeopathic candida remedies (in Boots) which worked brilliantly.

use grapefruit seed extract 5 drops in water three times a day in additon to the fluconzale.
