Have a 3 week old ebf baby. Breastfeeding seems to be going well, mostly seems satisfied after a feed and lots of wet and dirty nappys and putting on plenty of weight. The last 4 or 5 days though he is being very fussy at the boob, arching back and coming on and off breast constantly, then wanting fed 10 mins later. Im using infacol before feeds and winding but feel like its not helping. I also feel like i am feeding him constantly - every hour for an hour, and then at night a cluster feed of 3 - 4hours long.

Is this normal? Is this just how demanding breastfeeding is? Or could this be something wrong? I am exhausted!

Also hes had some poos that a green?

My ds1 used to have many green nappies and fussy on the breast. basically it was due to an overactive letdown and him filling up on too much foremilk as I had oversupply as well.

An overactive letdown doesn't usually happen until 3-6 weeks postpartum, which is also when babies have growth spurts.

I ended up feeding in a different position to help with the letdown. See kellymom.com/bf/got-milk/supply-worries/fast-letdown/ for feeding positions and oversupply issues. Also kellymom.com/bf/got-milk/basics/foremilk-hindmilk/ for more info about foremilk/hindmilk.

I also did block feeding (same breast for four hour block, then change to other breast for feeds over the next four hours) to help reduce my supply (in the end my supply was still so great that by 8 weeks, I was down to feeding on one breast for 12 hours). But I would not recommend you do this until you have tried the forceful letdown techniques.

My DD did this last week in front of the health visitor, it wasn't wind for her and it appeared that she had emptied that boob of what she wanted and the HV said to then switch her to the other one which she fed perfectly from. The other times they can do this is when they are having growth spurts and are wanting your milk to come out faster.

The other times my DD has a strop on the boob is when my milk comes out too fast, but that one is pretty obvious as it makes her cough.
