How do I get through it?

DD2 was born yesterday am. Since birth, she has fed almost constantly (I know this is normal. I BF DD1 until nearly a year). However due to a long labour I have slept 4 hours out of the last 72. We got home from hospital yesterday evening, went to bed and she was latched on from 10pm- 4am without a break. If she unlatched she screamed the house down. Did the same again today from 11am- 3pm. Has now been latched since 7pm with no sign of let up. I can't get through another night (third in a row) with no sleep. I just can't. What can I do?

Glad things are going a bit better. I would echo the comments about trying to avoid a dummy if possible for the first few weeks as it can affect milk supply. They suckle more when they are about to have or are having a growth spurt and need more milk. Hope you get some more sleep tonight.

I wouldn't use a dummy either. Just sucking is fine, she needs to do it to increase your milk supply.

I know all about avoiding dummies for successful BF and I never used one for DD, but after 12 hours of completely constant suckling and no sleep for 4 nights sometimes something has got to give. Irrelevant anyway as she wouldn't take it! She seems calmer today so I think my milk must be coming in. Her last feed was an hour instead of 4!

Sounds good op. When he was very small ds wouldn't take a dummy (he did after a couple of weeks) but he would suck on dp's little finger, which gave me valuable sleep. I agree that something's got to give-especially when you have a toddler. I'm dreading bf this one tbh- you're doing amazingly well!!

Brilliant news - that is great. An hour instead of four is fantastic.

We're making progress, my milk is in and she's so much more content, she's like a different baby. She still cluster fed last night but a couple of hours rather than all night, and was suckling a lot in the night but not 12 hours solid so I got a few hours sleep. She will now sleep on DH for an hour or so too so I get a break to give my toddler some attention.
Thank you all so much for your support ????
