DS 20 weeks/Just over 14lbs
A few weeks ago he started to be able to go from 7am to 11am for his second feed of the day and was quite happy to go for that period of time. Then he started to wake from his nap in the morning (from 9 for about 45 mins)and was hysterical so I was feeding him more like 10/10/30am. So,I wondered if he was unfulfilled on the no1 and put him on to Aptamil 2 - straight switch. He did fine on it - no problem with the nappies or constipation and he seemed to be a lot more settled.
Then Wednesday and Thursday of this week he took only about 3 - 4oz at a push of each feed (5 feeds a day) which is well under the usual 6-7floz. Yesterday after he got up from a nap at 2.30 - 4 hours after his last feed, he took an oz and was completely disinterested. His 6pm feed wasn't much better.
I was seeing GP anyway yesterday afternoon so mentioned it and he said that he might have a cold coming on (had one begin of last week) or that it is just one of those things.
Phoned Aptamil and they said that p'raps put him back on no1 - no2 might be a bit much for him filling him up and stopping him from being hungry for his next feed and just p'raps do a no2 feed last thing.
I'm very confused now.Today I put him back on no1 and after his morning nap, he was miserable til I fed him but even then he didn't take all his feed. He sleeps through and slept through fine last night from 10.30 feed to 7am.
Sorry to ramble on - does this sound like he might be going down with something or maybe that he had too much no 2. How do I combine the no1 and no2 ?? If at all.
Help !

i would just keep him on the number 1. the others are all just marketing gimmicks. If he is still hungry on no 1 just give him more. His sleeping / eating routine is bound to keep changing at this age. It must be worrying that he is eating a bit less at the moment but taht may well be due to the cold coming on. The important thing is taht he is still doing wet nappies which shows he is getting enough fluid in him.

Thanks...It will be time to wean him in a few weeks anyway...so I'll just feed him more often if he needs it in the meantime. It is worrying when they don't want to eat, but he's just been giggling his way round Tesco entertaining the shoppers, so for now I can't see much wrong with him...

My HV told me just to offer more of number 1. My friend moved up to number 2 and had the same problems as you, she was advised by Dr to use the next stage teat with 2 (can't rememebr why) she did and it solved the problem.

I used Aptamil and we tried no 2 but had problems with it so went back to no 1. Feeding at that age can ge difficult. My ds had reflux so we had other issues anyway but it could be a cold, could be teething, could be early signs of needing to wean etc. I would go back to no 1 and see how it goes over the next week or so and if there's still no improvement then have a chat with your hv.

The thing with no 2 is its thicker so if you're using the smallest size teat, it could be that the milk can't actually get through which is why you'd be advised to move up to the bigger sizes.

Thanks, I'm actually using no 3 teat after having some problems at 14 weeks when I think he was getting bored of having to suck so hard. He took the formula fine after a bit of initial coughing and spluttering....
I've gone back to no 1 aptamil with a couple of no 2 aptamil bottles (first and last feed ) for the time being see how it goes. I also think that he might be teething, we've had drooling, one red cheek, several dirty nappies today (bit runny rather than softer - sorry too much information!) so I suspect this may be part of the cause.
