Think it would make me dig my heels in more tbh!

Plus it would have made a better headline and hurt the airline more

harpsichordandcarrots · 15/11/2006 15:03

do I cod? do I???
well I might start again just to annoy you
at the idea of covering a two year old with a blanket

SneakyMouse · 15/11/2006 15:04

Me too, JT. But I'm feisty.

How ridiculous. This makes me very !

TheHighwayCod · 15/11/2006 15:06

OLIVe DONt open that at work

MKG · 15/11/2006 15:07

She can sue but she might lose. Some states do not exclude bfing from indecent exposure laws and some do. The federal government only protects bfing moms on federal property. Depending on the laws in Vermont, and the fact that the airline is a private company that can make its own rules. She might lose.
Is it a violation of her civil rights, yes. Could she still lose, yes.

JoolsToo · 15/11/2006 15:07

arrested? even better headline!

Bozza · 15/11/2006 15:09

Hmm I do think this is ridiculous. Also the report makes it sounds as though she was being awkward feeding her child when the plane was ready for take off when they had been waiting around for 3 ours. I would assume she timed it deliberately for then to help with the DD's ears. That is what I would have done but have never flown with a breastfed child.

MKG · 15/11/2006 15:09

It won't make a difference to the airline because Delta is about to bought by United.

Tatties · 15/11/2006 15:09

Indecent exposure?!

MKG · 15/11/2006 15:13

It does beg the bigger question of children and airplanes. AFter my nephew was born my sister came out with him and her 3 year old. Everything was fine until my niece had to pee. Imagine my sister with a three year old and a 2 month old in an airplane bathroom.

And if you've ever tried to change a diaper on an airplane you know that it is a nearly impossible thing to do.

This case may open the bigger arguement to how pregnant and nursing mothers, and children are accomodated everywhere except on airplanes.

MKG · 15/11/2006 15:15

Tatties,

Yes! Here people can not show breast (nipples), vaginas, or penis, in public. Many states make exception to breastfeeding mothers, but unless it is specifically protected, the arguement can be that what she was doing was indecent exposure.

MKG · 15/11/2006 15:18

I checked on the law in Vermont, she is protected under vermont law, now it is the issue of whether a private company's rules can override that. She'll probably win, but most likely they will settle out of court, and no one will hear about this again.

DarrellRivers · 15/11/2006 15:19

Have you tried to change a baby's nappy in a train toilet with a 3 year old? That's pretty bad
I suppose there is a question of limited space on a plane/train, but I suspect that doesn't really effect/affect (have lost confidence following other thread) a breastfeeding mum

eefs · 15/11/2006 15:26

I wouldn't put an icky airline blanket on my childs head, or my naked bosom come to that.

MKG · 15/11/2006 15:27

DarrellRivers,

But this case could open up the debate that airplanes are not "baby friendly". There are no changing tables. Giving my 6 month old a bottle was nearly impossible due to that fact that there was almost no space to manuever. On every airplane their is almost always 1 child or baby, and if I were the mother that got kicked off. I would use this as a platform to make a bigger argument.
If people in first class can have a better meal, and hot towels to wipe themselves on, I think an airline can afford to put a changing table on the plane.

spacemanspiff · 15/11/2006 16:20

i hope she gets loadsa money for this. personally, they would have to get me arrested and to remove me off the plane quietly.

3andnomore · 15/11/2006 17:58

Ridiculous.....
