Wind

I imagine this problem is related to feeding. My ds is 4 months old. He's been mixed fed since 4 weeks so he's primarily breast fed but has 1 to 2 bottles of formulaa day (6 fl oz of Farley's first milk). Recently he's been suffering from trapped wind which causes him immense discomfort. We've tried different positioning during feeds , frequent burping etc but only getting rid of the wind helps and that can take some time. I live abroad so no hv or family nearby, reliant very much on friends and mumsnet. Any help would be really appreciated,
Thanks

god, I hate the wind. ds 8 weeks is exclusively bf-ed and suffers terribly from it, sometimes up the whole night grimacing and whinging, pulling his legs up. everyone tells me to use infacol before every feed but I don't know if it works - some days are worse than others,

Based on my experience with dd, it comes and goes in phases until she was clear of it by 6.5 months. If you think about it, their guts are still developing and being colonised by bacteria, hence all that turmoil. It could be the formula you introduced but his gut will adjust in time. My dd had a bout after I introduced solids.

Jaca, I would use that infacol, if you think it helps, and continue to burp and comfort him. It will pass.

Thanks for that blueshoes. I'll try to find out if there's a local equivalent of infacol where I live. If not, we'll suffer til Christmas when we're heading for the UK.

thanks again.

Try the Infacol definitely but just to let you know it doesn't work for everyone. My DS is 7 weeks and is FF, he has really bad wind and we struggle to get a burp, tried Infacol on the advice of the HV but it only seemed to make him worse.

We have found that massaging his tummy and making the milk warmer really helps (although I know you cant make breast milk warmer).

jaca, some people swear by gripe water. I have never really tried it myself. Hopefully it is sold where you are.

Hi Jaca, where are you living?
both mine suffered from wind so i really feel for you. it does pass!
i found infacol good when they were much younger than 4 months. gripe water is fantastic.
what bottles are you using? when i switched to formula, i found the Dr.Brown's ones to be much better than the rest - you can get them here
(if you e-mail them they will probably send you some gripe water/infacol too.. they are quite helpful)

Thanks for all that. I'm living in Vietnam so not sure if I can get hold of Dr Brown's bottles. Currently using Avent ones. I will definitely try to get hold of gripe water of some sort of equivalent here and also try the warmer milk tip. I'm back in the UK in 5 weeks so whatever will stock up on essentials when I get there. See also if I can get some stuff on the internet.

Thanks for everyone's help. Hopefully this is a stage that will pass! literally
