Teething/biting - it stops, right??

DS2 is 6mo and last few night feeds he's had a good few nips before latching on. I expect he's teething, or not really hungry - I feed him every time he wakes at night to get him back to sleep - and he's also got a bit of a cold which may also not help the whole feeding scenario.

DS1 did this a couple of times but he didn't get teeth until he was 10mo. DS2 already has 2 bottom ones so this is starting way earlier. And he's a lot more, feisty, for want of a better word, than DS1 was and am nervous this is going to be his 'thing'.

Really wouldn't want to have to give up bfing because of it.

It's temporary right? And tips on what to do when he does it? He doesn't stay biting down its just a quick nip. Is there any point in saying no! ?

I read that when bitten you should say no and put baby down/ stop feeding for a bit. This never worked for my dd though... she bit me and drew blood. I yelped in pain. This resulted in a nursing strike for about 12 hours and she hasn't bitten since so I think I gave her a scare. This isn't recommended though as it can put babies off bf long term but it was unintentional and did work. It may have coincided with finishing teething too though ... dd is 7.5mo and has had her front 6 teeth for a couple of weeks and there has touch wood been no more biting.

My two nipped a bit while teething and when they'd had enough but were still comfort sucking. DD once drew blood, which was really painful.

But yes, it's just a phase, and saying no while temporarily unlatching them can help. Currently feeding DS (15mo) and there's not been a hint of a nibble for months and months.
