good latch tips

Hi everyone
Long time lurker
My son is 2 weeks tomorrow and is going to have his tongue tie cut after he basically shredded my nipples and lost so much weight he had to be admitted to hospital again with jaundice Confused
since then, I've been expressing my milk to keep up supply and topping up with formula, I've still sneakily been putting him on the breast so he doesn't lose feeling of the nipple but it still hurts like hell

Everywhere I read it says it shouldn't hurt. I am hoping after the tongue tie is cut he will just latch on like a dream - but has anyone got any tips?? I really really want to breastfeed this time but at the same time not at a detriment to his health either. I had a lot of problems with my first D which meant I couldn't BF.

thanks in advance!

I found bf painful initially, even with a good latch. The first few seconds were toe-curling! It did get much better over time though as my nipples toughened up a bit. By six weeks it wasn't painful at all!

There are youtube tutorials on how to get a good latch which might be worth looking at. The most helpful thing for me was joining a local LLL group and going to BF meet-ups/cafes - lots of friendly, helpful peer supporters to check latch and other children for DS1 to play with while I fed DS2.

Good luck Smile

But what I don't get is, how long am I meant to keep faffing about trying to get him to latch on with each feed? If he's not getting the milk will he not get weak again?
