What's giving my 3 week old tummy ache?

3 week old PFB is a 10 pounder and very hungry. I bf in the day but as he feeds for between 45mins and an hour I ff at night because it's quicker and we both get more sleep! He has between 80ml and 125ml three times a night.
In the last week or two he's been very flatulent and very often squirms about and cries and gripes before parping or pooing audibly. He's also very tetchy in the evenings and will try to feed but then gets cross and seems to have tummy ache because he brings his legs up and wriggles loads and he gets really frustrated because he's trying to feed but is in too much discomfort and in the end I usually have to hand him over to DP to calm him down.
Also his poos have been green sometimes in the last few days.
I think it's something he's allergic to that I'm eating. I've been having quite a lot of smelly cheese and cured meats (missed them while pg!) and salad. Midwife says it's more likely to be tomatoes than dairy but it only seems to be since I've had all the cheese...
Anyone's baby had a similar issue? I'm worried this might be a precursor to colic Confused

lilla I would try to keep going with bf at night and maybe try to add a ff at different point eg when dh gets home from work so you can have a lie down?

Like you I had worries about falling asleep at night and hurting baby but I never did and I think it does seem that you always jolt to attention - so the sleep is very light.

I would say that for most people the first 4 - 6 weeks of ebf is demanding but it does get easier. Are you taking iron tablets for your blood loss? Do you have someone to take care of you at times? I only got out of hospital with ds when he was 2 weeks old - and spent pretty much all of week 3 in bed. DH made me a picnic and I would take it very easy, really try to not do too much, you need to recuperate after an emcs.

As others have said ff at night can effect milk supplies. Would also say that many lo is struggling to cope with switching from breast milk (very easily digestible) to formula which is harder to digest.
Fwiw my ds and dd had rotten colic for about a month at some point in the first few onths so ebf won't always prevents this.

For most people this does get better it is still early days Flowers

I found baby massage worked well. Circular motions on the tummy part. Certainly eased the windy parts. I breast fed.m

Thank you so much everyone Flowers
Sorry again Tiktok Flowers
Springtime, that sounds like a good routine - I'll suggest to DP.
Idefix, I have been taking iron, but maybe not resting as much as I should...

DS hasn't been so fussy this eve with his feeds/tummy ache. When he's started getting agitated I've taken him off the breast straight away and cuddled and tried to burp him until he's calm enough to go back on or he's fallen asleep in the interval which he usually does.

I do hope it gets easier and he learns to feed more quickly and mainly in the day!

I'll try giving him at least one bf in the night tonight and see how we get on Smile

See how you go, I know super early nights and getting rest and daytime naps made a huge difference to me. Someoptimes it is hard to look after yourself enough between breing busy with baby/desperate for a bit of life!

Three weeks is also classic growth spurt time.
He won't be constantly feeding forever. Just take it one night at a time Flowers

Eltonjohnsflorist · 09/05/2015 23:02

What if yourawizard said, there is a 3 week growth spurt but it will only last a few days, you just have to ride it out

ozymandiusking · 09/05/2015 23:10

3 month colic

Eltonjohnsflorist · 09/05/2015 23:12

Baby is 3 weeks

There is nothing evil about formula milk.

lillamyy1 - You could try a dummy for comfort sucking. Lots of BF (and FF) babies have a dummy from 3 weeks, or indeed earlier.
