EBF 6mo pooing like a newborn...

.....and by that I mean up the back, all the time, after feeds, and during the night again...!

Sorry if this isn't right place for this thread.

For the last week DS2 who is 6mo in a few days has started pooing really frequently. Usually he'd poo between 0-2 times a day. Now it's 3/4 times, and he poops in the night too again. It's normal bfing poo but sometimes is on greeny side and sometimes looks a little jelly like.

He's got lots of gas too and is doing huge farts..

He is his usual self I think and doesn't appear to be in any discomfort. He does have a mild cold but has had one since the winter...

At the start of the week I let him suck a small bit of mash potato and then raspberry off my finger and he's had a few licks and sucks on bits of fruit I was eating, but otherwise he's not on solids yet.

I wondered if he's having a growth spurt? He's feeding as normal but maybe he's taking more at each feed and so pooing more as eating more?

Am I right that it's no cause for concern unless he seems miserable or if there are other symptoms..?

There is a cold going round which does exactly this. DD had it.
Gross ... but my dr knew immediately as it seems to be going round. Just said keep baby hydrated and rested.

Thanks, I guess he does have a bit of a cold. Is odd though as he poos at almost exactly the same time every night - between 3-330am..! Two nights ago he pooed three times in the space of half an hour. Thankfully last night was the first time in a week that he hasn't. It seems to mostly be gas now...
He's just had his first tooth through and I know people often say their baby's napped are grim when they're teething but I also read there's no evidence for that to happen so who knows.
May pop along to GP in a day or two if its hasn't stopped

There is evidence according to my GP - teething produces excessive saliva, which is both mildly acidic and full of natural bacteria. This drool is swallowed into a gut used only to milk. Voila, loose/slimy stools.
I didn't think this was considered a myth by anyone, as it has such a logical cause.

I'd read that too about saliva but the way it read it sounded like doctors clutching at straws trying to find an explanation for something mums are certain of. But I've just felt a second scratchy shard of tooth so that's two in as many days. Sounds enough to make anyone's tummy upset Wink

Dentists reckon milk teeth are like wisdom teeth ... 20+ times in the space of a year. Ow! No wonder they get temperatures and poo.
