I will be away from 10am - 5pm

DD'S feeds are all over the place right now. She has started to have two to three long feeds in the night between 7PM - 7AM and on nights that she does she ill not take her morning feed when she wakes right up to sometimes 2pm. So she is taking hardly naything in the day and wanting it at night!

She normally feeds 8am, 11am, 2.30pm, 4ish, 7pm and has breakfast and dinner. She is 6mths.

Tomorrow I am away for work at a conference and I am rubbish at expressing so I was going to try and express as much as poss and leave that and dh can top up with formula and food. Its just a one off.

Should I give her one bottle of ebm and then next formula or should I mix half and half to help her tummy?

What formula should I use????

Can you really have organic formula as its powdered food anyone so would it really make much difference?

Thank you

Really stressed about this.

Personally i use cow & gate as (claims to have) more prebiotic thingies in.

When i was bf i did have to give formula one day when we were travelling. I stressed about it at the time but in hindsight ds was completely fine, and my supply remained ok as was just a one off.

If i were you i would give ebm first then he can give any extra as formula thereafter, if she doesnt end up having much milk that day at least she will have had your milk first. You dont want to come home to ebm leftover in the fridge.

I dont think it would make much physical difference to your lo which way round it was though.

Dont worry about being stressed...tis perfectly natural i think, and your lo will be fine.

Hope your conference goes well and you get a nice lunch with it

I have heard (no experience myself) that the ready-to-use cartons of Hipp Organic are pretty good.
Expensive, yes, but for a one off...

hi there i would not really mix the breast with formula personally because i think the mixed taste would not be nice for baby, when i had to use formula for my son ,, which was very rare, i used to add a little more water so it was not as strong, so not so harsh on his tummy, i would save the express feed till last or the middle feed as that will be the favourite, so will passify baby better, if u give that one straight away u will have nothing else to fall back on if that makes sence, i cannot really recommend any formula, as never really used it alot, to be honest! but i think i used farleys first milk ready mixed one, for when i did!

(oh, and easier for a DH who's not used to mixing powder etc)

How old is she, LC?

tiktok · 06/11/2006 14:37

I see she's 6 mths and having solids.

She doesn't need formula, then - for one day, she can have whatever you can express, plus water in a cup, to ensure she does not get thristy, and whatever solids she normally has and maybe a bit more than usual if your dh thinks she is a bit hungry.

It really isn't worth getting stressed about what sort of formula to give her when this is just a one off....what do you think is going to happen if she doesn;t have formula? Answer: nothing

6 months says in post x

Wow - thanks everyone, that really was quick!

Tictok - i guess you're right. I just give her solids morning and evening so maybe I should give her lunch tomorrow to then?

Up to now she has only had fruit, veg and baby rice and my milk.

I know from now on she canhave yogurts and cheese etc. Should i maybe offer her one of them too so she has more bulk?

My frist dd reacted at 5.5mths to formula so that is why i am being a bit over the top.

I am sure she would be fine. A yogurt would be a nice treat if she got upset.

I do like to be around though if she is tasting something new.

I think i might just skip the formula then

lovecloud, I wouldn't make the same suggestion for someone going back to work full time. A 6mth baby needs milk of some sort every day. But as a one off - honestly, I cannot think it is remotely worth the hassle!

Hello tiktok

Just thought i'd let you know that today was fine.

I expressed only 4 ozs out after 20mins this morning!!! So little so I was worried especially after dd refused her morning feed too. I gave her breakfast and then left.

Dh said she was fine and offered her lots of water plus gave her lunch and dinner. She refused the bottle of ebm?!?!

I got in at 5.30pm and immediately fed her and she only wanted one side. I was expecting her to take both.

Gave her a bath and she had an extra long feed. now she is tucked up in bed

I'm a bit worried she may wake a few times to feed tonight now.

She seems to take less and less these days and make up for it through the night. NOt sure how rto get out of this only be refusing to feed her bu tshe would get so upset. Her cry sounds so loud at night and I worry about waking neighbours.

Glad today went well, LC.

I think it is unkind to a baby of this age to refuse to feed when they wake and cry - my feeling is that any 'sleep training' can come later
